Enamored With FearA Poem by HopeJGA poem from my WIP 'Fight For Me'It was not Death’s kiss I felt, but Fear’s. It drags me into eternal slumber all the same. His bloody, sickly sweet lips brush against my cheek, leaving something sticky behind. The creak of wooden stairs mark his footsteps, the eerie whistle of wind is his breath. His cackle is the squeal of old hinges. It was not Life who gave me the breath of courage, but Fear who stole it. His fingers trace my spine, spreading ice. His hand spans across my waist as he leads me in the dance of cowardice. With steps stiff and stumbling, I waltz, enamored with this partner of mine. Behind this shield of terror I hide, safe and protected, from the unknown. © 2024 HopeJGAuthor's Note
