The Same

The Same

A Poem by HopeJG
"

This poem was written after listening to Beth Crowley's amazing song, "In The End". It also reflects the relationship between one of my friends and myself. There is a companion poem.

The Same

I see you and know the darkness in your eyes

I feel you and know the anguish that the demons bring

I know you

and your pain is perhaps like mine

Would it kill you to smile at me,

to save something in you solely for me,

to tell me of that darkness

that pain?

Would it kill me to tell you all the things I’ve never said?

To tell you all the things that haunt me,

the things you seem not to dwell on anymore.

Do you hear those whispers of doubt too?

I look at you and think that perhaps we’re the same

That our darkness is born from pain

And that we hide it

We hide it even from ourselves

Do you ever think of the past?

Those shadows that we’ve stepped out from under

Those whispers we’ve tried our best to silence

Do you ever go over every moment

Every word

Every unsaid thing that passes between us

If you could read my mind,

I think maybe…

You’d wish not to see me

How do I stop myself from missing you?

Do you ever give me a thought when I’m not actively reaching out?

Do we share the same fears regarding each other?

Or am I kidding myself?

Would you believe that my darkness comes

from memories of you?

Is yours the same?

Are we, perhaps, the same?

This piece is very deep and dark...are they a lot alike? in the sense that they see the same shadows of dark clouds and themselves? it's so difficult to read each other's minds, to know what they are thinking about you...this happens often with relationships.... and not knowing is the worst.
Nice work

This was really deep and made me think of myself and some things that have languished in the shadows. Funny how just a few words can show us a different perspective of ourselves. This was nice. I would like to read the companion poem.
