 Broken Mantis

Outside my window lives a broken praying mantis.
His wings damaged-how I do not know.
Whether born deformed
Or made that way by accident, or attack

He cannot fly how he was meant to.
And he cannot hide his deformity.

Yet everyday I look out my window and there he is.
Broken and unable to fly away and yet he goes on.
He lives day by day.

I don't understand why he continues,
Whether his tiny brain is to blame
Or maybe he knows something we don't
Perhaps we have something to learn from this small creature.

Broken and hurting-"damaged" and seemingly alone.
But still there- day by day
Living as best he can.
and day by day
never forgetting
to pray.

I loved that - it really makes you think. I won't be forgetting the mantis with a broken wing soon!
