On a day like today

On a day like today

A Poem by Nothing Personal

On a day like today,
When you want the most
but you simply can't,
You should at least write about it.

On a day like today,
When she looks the best
but cant be touched ,
You should at least think about the first kiss.

On a day like today
When you write a song
but the lines don't flow from your pen,
You should at least sing the last one you wrote.

No darn no,
This is not on hope
or on those in which the downers dwell,
But simply on what you could do when you cant.

On a day like today,
Don't break the rules
but let them break away,
You may atleast know what those were.

On a day like today,
Do what you can as long as you can,
As times change and your mind,
Shine through the night and the late October rain.

On a day like today,
Eat pasta,
sleep tight
and dont call your mom.

Through the dark alleys
and the blind lanes,
Comes out the road
that makes you your destiny's cockswain.

A genius piece of work I must say. I found it to be full of beautiful imagery, each line a new picture.
My favourite stanza would be the fifth. The concept appeals to me of not breaking the rules but instead the rules breaking away. I was struck by the power of this line, very well done. A little typo in this stanza….. You forgot to put a space between the “at least”.
I enjoyed reading this poem and would like to thank you for contributing it to Poets Post! Please take the time and review other members work!

Wonderful fresh piece of writing. Very honest and strong. That last stanza (especially the last line) really blows it up! Great write!
Cheers!

I interpreted this to suggest, basically, instant gratification and not withholding from oneself as if tomorrow may hold something better. If you can't do exactly what you want to do today, at least do something along that continuum that will allow you to derive some sort of pleasure and presence. Very simple and elegant message and eloquently written. Very nice.

Cool little write! I like the message - find spectacular in the unspectacular....
