Curled Up

Curled Up

A Poem by NotchHero

You found me,
Curled in a ball,
Shaking, crying,
Hiding, waiting,
From all of the pain,
From the world,
And all those who hate me.

You picked me up,
Dusted me off,
Set me upright again,
You set me back on the path,
When I could no longer do it myself.
You let me lean on you,
When I could no longer stand.
You let me be with you,
When no one else would.
You let me be safe,
In an unsafe world.

Yet your kindness,
Isn't mine alone.
I have no right to ask for it to be,
But there's a part of me,
That wants to say "To hell with it,"
And ask anyways.

So when you pick me up next time,
I won't stay,
I won't let myself ask.
I would rather die alone,
Than change who you are.
