FlyingA Poem by NotaRabbit19The first of a 3 poem series: Flying, Falling, FreeI wasn't sure. I wanted to But I was shy. Finally, I did it. I asked. You were unsure too. "You felt obliged" you said "To say yes. Because when a girl asks a guy something He can't say no." The first practice, You whined Through smiling lips. You rolled your laughing eyes. You tried to pretend You weren't having fun But you didn't try very hard. You enjoyed yourself And we both knew it The second practice. You remembered from the first. You were more confident. You teased me. So I made funny frowns at you. And you spent the whole practice Trying to make me smile. Tickling me And making funny faces Until I finally gave in Smiling at your efforts To bring me back to you. The third practice. You're nolonger so uncomfortable. I tease you. And you frown at me this time. I make puppy eyes And beg you to talk to me again. You turn away, smiling. Then you turn around And smile straight at me. The dance. Your hands on my waist At first unsure But now comfortable. I have to count to get it right And you laugh To see me mouthing 4, 5, 6, Your hands hold mine. A familiar touch. Our palms cover eachother's smiles. I lean back. I trust you and you hold me. You spin me around And pull a cheesy valentine Out of your back pocket. You give it to me. My cheeks hurt from smiling. We do a small waltz. I don't look at my feet Like every other time. I am looking right at you Knowing your smile is mine And mine belongs to you. I begin to walk away. I feel your hand on my arm. It slides down my wrist Til we're hand in hand. You pull me toward you. I spin into you. You dip me. In a moment I remember what you said Before we performed. "Trust me on the dip And we'll be fine. I promise I won't drop you. Just trust me." And I do. © 2017 NotaRabbit19 |
