Clenched fists, beating hearts, and heavy feet. Lift, left-right, step, up-down.

A Poem by Anna Sandy

If you were a shaper, what would you shape?
If I dubbed you creator, is this the destruction you would create?
You spoil your own foul moods, and you make the darkness darker.
Write your opinions down in invisible ink, and throw away the magic marker.
You’re a shell, you’re a tank, and you’re armed to the teeth.
You hold tight to a leash and pull back just before prosperity.
If afraid to fall is all that’s got you down,
my only suggestion is to let yourself hit the ground.
Because when you get back up you’ll see, it’s really not that bad,
keeping your heart light keeps you the resilience you were sure you once had.
If life is a roller coaster, and you’re not strapped in,
you’ll need to rely on your will to give your body the win.
When there’s nothing to hold on to, maybe you should just let go,
and when there’s no one to remind you, maybe you should just know.
The courage it takes, to go it on your own,
the wisdom you’ll feel, knowing you’re never really alone.
So stop kicking, and screaming, and trying to change everything around you,
because every fault, every setback, is determined by you.
Accept the course or give up, you can always start anew
but don’t forget to change when the universe says to.
You must flex your knowledge, and flux your mood--red to blue.
Adapting your styles, and maintain that the surface is just a clue.
The icebergs, you see, though hidden below,
don’t lurk to destroy your ship, they’re just here to float.
We’ve got to learn to change our paths when we get stuck in the mud.
Because this lifetime won’t last, you know, you’ve only got one.
So hear me or not, the world spins either way,
find your happiness or don’t, because tomorrow’s just another day.
