A Deeper ConversationA Poem by Ethan RichardsA poem questioning the profoundity of everyday conversation.
What would you like to talk about?
Is it more than words that come out of your mouth? Do you speak with conviction; is there a shrivel of doubt? Do you believe in yourself, and to what amount? When speaking on dreams; is there fire in your eyes? How much of your drive is based on pride? Do you know how to stand when pushed to the side? When you're alone; do you smile or cry? What are your fears? Do you have any at all? What are your goals, both the big and the small? When facing your demons, do you stand up tall? When facing decisions; do you stall? Can you talk about more than the people around you? In social circles, are you rubber or glue? Is failure an end, or does it call for a re-do? When faced with a choice, what will you imbue? When people are speaking, do you actually listen? Are you at peace or is a part of you missing? Do you love? Do you hate? Does your soul glisten? Do you feel like a one or a perfect ten? Are you here to change this world? For better or for worse? Do you consider empathy a gift or a curse? Are there gifts you've received that you'd like to reimburse? When you think of happiness; does it hurt? Where is your faith? Do you have a clue? When we feel the flow, do you feel it too? Do you believe in change? Can you handle the truth? Can you stop hiding things and be a brighter you? What would I like to talk about? That's an excellent quarry. Let's delve into things that are ordinary. Let's find all the things we've long since buried. So we can build a connection that doesn't make us weary.
