My familyA Poem by Northendi wrote this years ago after a fightMy mom is kind at times, But a pain at others. My dad is a drunken fool. He yells at my mom and brother, Never letting us forget who is the stronger one Never letting us forget who is the better one, I hear my little brother cry, So I come to hold him, Yelling at this man I call father, To back off, from my brother. He raises his voice to show power But I stand my ground. I put my sobbing brother behind me. Raising my own voice to show no fear, But in truth this terrifies me, With fear running though my body I stand. I stand up for my brother for I feel the need to protect him I stand up for what I am sick of hearing I stand up for what’s left of my family. In the end my dad takes out his anger and stress on me, While my mother is away, No one hears my screams as I yell at him No one bothers to notice the scars I bear No one seems to care that I walk to school with a limp By the time morning comes my brother is a sleep But I sit on this porch of mine My body hurting from the night before, Holding my dear brother in my arms, Knowing the tears want to fall, But I refuse to let them fall, I am just glad my father has stopped © 2010 NorthendReviews
