Remember When.

Remember When.

A Poem by Noronradss55
"

Days gone by.

"
Remember those cool summer
days, when the weather was
nice? You could buy water ice
for a dime, mustard pretzel for
an even cheaper price? Girls
Played hopscotch, while boys
shot coolie in the street. No
bullets flying, just enjoying the
mild summer heat.

Old folks swaying to that funky
rhythm beat, those were the days,
elders garnered respect,not robbed
and beaten, for a monthly security
check.Remember the block parties?
where harmony was king? no negativity
or beef, just what sort of food to bring.

Where did we go wrong? Young killers
roam the streets, we've got to get back
to a time, when blood didn't run so deep.
A time when you could sit out on your
porch and just enjoy the view, share a
 pleasant conversation with Your neighbor
over a cold beverage, or even a pot of stew.
Those days are gone, sorry to say, but for the
ones that do remember. We must never stop
 fighting, for a better day...

 God Bless.

enjoyed the read and agree strongly with the sympathies expressed. Personally, the attitudes today were there yesterday, but the opportunities were less. I remember teen gangs in our neighborhoods knives were common property but a rare object present was a handmade zip gun. today is a very different story. can it be fixed I believe so but the industry behind it is massive and the lobbyist pressure in lawmaker arena is mind boggling. I know a man who said, "money is the root of all evil." and He knows the truth and always speaks it. We still hope and walk in peace -carl

As a writer who is still pretty young, I don’t remember the “good old days” but I’ve heard enough people talk about them to feel that this poem truly captures something special. Sometimes it is surreal to look at the world around us, all the violence, all the hatred, and wonder how it all started. And why. Anyways, wonderful poem. I really enjoy your work!
