Earthen Prayer

Earthen Prayer

A Poem by Brandon
"

From an admirer of astrological earth signs, a confession.

"
Often I've prayed for peace;
Of cool earth to envelope me...
I've longed for stability and strength -
An earthenware man...
For every brown-eyed, strong faced, sturdy guy,
I've felt myself pulled into quicksand.
I've longed for the vitality that every Taurian, Virgo, or Capricornian man maintains.
But, I know...
As much as I search for this ideal,
I'm doomed to remain alone in how I feel.
Often, I've prayed for sanctuary -
And for brief moments,
I felt on the verge...
And yet...these clay men I'm so fond of break,
In my hands their resolve crumbles,
So, I let go of these feelings,
Diverting my scorching grasp;
I replace these men where I found them,
Far from my fiery reach.
But from afar, I yearn and plead...
I plead with myself, with the goddess above;
I plead with dying stars to maybe find love.

I was deeply touched by the raw honesty and vulnerability of your poem. I was also struck by the sense of both hope and despair that runs through the poem. On the one hand, you express a deep desire for stability, sanctuary, and mutual understanding. On the other hand, you seem to recognize that the quest for an "ideal" relationship may be unrealistic. Despite this, I hope you don't lose faith in the possibility of meaningful relationships.So, I found your poem to be moving in its humanity. Thank you

It is interesting how often we compare ourselves negatively with others. In this offering the speaker feels envious of certain sturdy, strong types without knowing what their inner lives are like. At the end, we get the feeling he may have gained some enlightenment, but he still seems to be groping in the darkness. Well, life is an ongoing school.
