Sand-like and Distant

Sand-like and Distant

A Poem by Brandon

Your reaction settled into my mouth,

Sand-like and distant.

A tell you never knew you had,

Being too sweet and overly affectionate.

I said I love you.

You said it back.

But when we touched, I could tell.

The quiet mist that hung above street lights,

It was you.

Looming ever so close to the edge.

You would never try to betray yourself.

High are the walls in which you live,

Guarded but always open.

In hindsight, this was always in the cards.

Our fate was never to remain together,

Two craggy cliffs leaning on each other for support.

We topple,

Exposing our raw desires,

Crumbling heavily into the depths of our love.
