If Walls Could Talk?

If Walls Could Talk?

A Poem by Nomo

If these walls could talk
What would they say
Would they speak of what they seen
What they been through
Do they know what it's like?
If these walls could talk
Would they say please stop hurting yourself?
Would they tell you it's gonna be ok?
Would the walls forgive you for punching a hole or two?
If these walls could talk
Would they speak their history?
Their shared experience?
Or would they really care?

As a reader this poem is riddled with depression throughout it. Generally traumatic experiences is the cause of depression that is also indicated in this piece. I symbolise with you, everyone in this world has their own struggle in life that they are dealing with. But it’s up to you on what you chose to do with it and how you react to things.

The speaker has obviously been through traumatic experience. The impression is that no one seems to care. There is a sense of isolation here.

I asked the same question often dear Nomo. If the walls could talk. They could tell you great secrets. Hello from Detroit and thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

When I read your poem, I feel a narrator who does not seem to give permission to speak for him/herself, so an "other" is invented to speak in this narrator's place. I also feel a narrator who seem to want the reader to know of the ups & downs, since so much is revealed thru probing questions that innocuously seem to be asking what the wall would say, but in reality, I get a much louder message that this narrator is really wondering if anyone is out there listening & is it safe to open up? This poem delivers tension that's about holding stuff in, right beside tension to let things burst out into the open. Very interesting dynamic -- I always love when a poet plays with contrasts becuz life is full of contrasts! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

And the world in its bigness keeps spinning, as we in our little Ness hang on for dear life at the enormity of it all and just trying to get through another day takes herculean effort.
Maybe it's their silent impassive Ness as our mind does somersaults that makes us strike out at them, ignoring us as they watch another story they'll never speak of unfold.

Interesting concept. Would they? I suppose they'd be numb to time. Slowly spindling away as the world around them changes. I don't think they'd care about the needs of humans. But find aesthetic beauty in the world, without really being connected with it. Like a shadow from a building, or a painting. There, but never in the same world as the living.
