A game to play

A game to play

A Poem by Nomopheonix

Hiding everyday, A game to play
Never winning always giving in, To the blade that awaits

He's always awake, Killing me slowly
Each day is a chore

The thorns grow tighter, Blood runs smoothly
Toxic poison pain flashing, Always wearing a mask

They don't need to know my pain, Just a mask I show
I never show the truth, Never feel truly happy

I almost crack each day, That I use a disguise
Pain slowly tearing what is left
I keep falling, no one is there to catch me

No one to share my pain, No friends
Blood slowly draining till blackness takes over

I'm on edge, I keep wishing for a better day
A day where I don't play his little game
A day to put down the blade, ignore these little thoughts

They all see a mask that I wear
No one knows the real me, they don't know my pain
Always awake, always a slow kill

As I read your poem chock full of intense feeling & imagery, I was taken on a journey to this desperate world, invisible among the throngs. I love your use of "mask" as a place to hide. I've heard some say they'll go on wearing a mask after getting vaxxed, becuz they like hiding behind a mask, now that it's become routine. Your poem mentions a lack of friends, as if friends ever really do share one's pain . . . a little optimistic, in my view. It's easier to be alone where we don't have to wear a mask or parade cheerfulness or fake hope. Your poem shows my view that life & people are mostly miserable & the art comes in finding ways to work thru it anyway (((HUGS)))

very powerful statement in this poem and I feel it speaks for many during these difficult times we live in. Do those that know of us truly know us? At times we all wear a mask to hide our true selves for it is a form of self preservation our hearts yearn for. To stave away the pain of heartache or the possibility of it. Thank you for sharing your poem.
