Monday morning.
Frankfurt airport, Terminal 1.

"Beyond", a coffee bar, Gate B.
I have been coming here for years.

About to have a double espresso.
Sometimes it is the little things
we can take joy in.

Wish you were sitting across
this tall table from me,
Looking like you did last night.

I like how "Beyond" and "The Vanishing" are portraits of half a person missing his other half. Scenes of loneliness pocked with memories of still vibrant love. It's like watching a man waltz with a ghost: heartbreaking and captivating. I can sense loss is a major driver for some of your 'scenes' or 'moments' -- in an airport coffee bar or hotel in town. Your choice of words and overall voice are genuine, human, and not overly-frilly -- perhaps flowery in sentiment only -- but your content and delivery sting of truth.

I perhaps drink too much coffee, and find that caffeine has little effect now (boo.) You make a good point, I think I do drink it more for the experience and to allow myself a few moments of reflection rather than any stimulatory effects.

I do enjoy the ambience around coffee, whether it is served at a greasy spoon diner, or a more pretentious cafe. I think caffeine doesn't affect me, but when I don't have any, I know it.

Finally I managed to read this poem, Noel. I can so relate just like you knew I would. I still have two weeks until I am back safe and sound next to Dale and believe me, it feels like I'm being tortured being away from him for this long. This is so heartfelt and bittersweet. I bet you were happy to get on that plane and get home to her. :)) beautifully written with so much emotion.
