Aeternus Noctis

A Poem by NoelDressary

I want to rest but it’s too loud
Cruel voices taunt me from the shadows
They only add to the noise
Their laughter a silent ringing all around me

Black rivers of icy water
Flow through my blue veins
Sweat is cold against my skin

Thunder shatters within
Electricity tingles my skin
Each jolt of lightning
Makes my limbs twitch

My heartbeat pounds at my head
Though my ears hear nothing
My head is rattled with sound
Silent drums berating my weary mind

Eyes are filled with nothingness
They scan the void of silence
There is no candle in the night
No light to reflect back at them

Time weighs heavily on my bones
The wounds of the day still ache
But sleep forever eludes me
There will be no rest tonight
