Wings of Azure SkiesA Poem by NoelDressaryFor everyone who gazes to the skies
Trapped are we on the hot, dusty earth
We fallen birds who long for the wind Imprisoned in safety and direct command Paths of tar and hardened clay Cages of steel, concrete, and glass Only tarnish our dreams of the the gold horizon Oh pigs who laugh and walk over us Call us rebels, heretics, and firebrands Don't ask us to change the color of our souls Give us the freedom we so yearn for In both hands do I hold us aloft At my feet do I carve out my own path To my left the world turns below my wing To my right you, my friend, sit with beaming eyes On my back our names are engraved Together we chase the winds Among the clouds we ride Ethereal beams of glorious sunlight Pierce the milky layers above The wind howls in joy as it greets us Enveloping itself around our wings in delight Soaring across the plains we glide On the wings of azure skies © 2015 NoelDressary |
