In Another's EyesA Poem by NoelDressaryThey say beauty is in the eyes of the beholderIn the amber glow
Of two evening stars In the electric blue spark Of two shimmering sapphires In the jaded varnish Of two wading lilypads Look carefully Look with purpose I promise you’ll find Another’s soul hiding Within the colors of Their two eyes Into the deepest Pit of their being Down their line of sight Pierce the ebony pupil With your own essence Look through the lense Take a journey Across the vast wonders Of the worlds within their eyes Rolling hills of soft green grasses Oceans of the purest blue skies Blazing infernos of distant rising suns Onyx galaxies of the star filled cosmos But my friend, I must warn thee, For there is a danger within The dark crevices of the eye When you've delved into someone’s eyes When you've seen them shine so bright When you've felt the warmth of their gaze Do not expect the bright colors to stay Hope fades in the night Blue skies return to gray As the soul leaves this world It takes its beauty and color with it There is no greater sadness No worse pain or sorrow Than to watch the color dull and drain From eyes that once gleamed with life Eyes that once painted their joy On the world around them Now they stare lifelessly back at me Stealing from my soul the life that it needs Be strong, and be vigilant, my friend For if you look too long you may see The light of your own broken soul Reflected back in another’s eyes © 2015 NoelDressaryFeatured Review
