Broken Heart

Broken Heart

A Chapter by Noah Wayverlynn

Early on Friday morning, Andy Yamada returned home. As Ayano and Megami were sleeping, he went inside to put his belongings in the living room. After putting everything in the house, he went back outside where Darcelle was waiting for him. He got his truck back that has been sitting at the Tokyo Airport waiting for him to return. Kentaro was checking up on the truck once in a while to make sure it remained in good condition. With only his essentials in hand, Andy left the house to go see an early morning concert with Darcelle. In fact, it was Darcelle's favorite band that was playing that morning. She came with Andy because she missed him, and she wanted to go see her favorite band perform live on stage. The two drove into the morning light immediately afterwards because Megami and Ayano did not know that Andy's childhood friend was in town. The concert lasted 4 hours, and ended with Darcelle's favorite song. After the concert, Darcelle took her childhood friend out to eat at a fancy restaurant. The restaurant wasn't very busy, so they were immediately helped as soon as they stepped in the door. As the host was leading them to a table, the host asked "So how is the weather today?" Before Andy could speak, Darcelle answered "It's a little windy, but not too bad. It's actually pretty sunny. The concert we just got done attending was outside, and it was amazing. They ended with my favorite song." The host nodded in response. "Wow that's great. Glad you're having a good day. Well, here is your table. Midori will be your server, and she will be right with you." Once the two friends sat down, they thanked the host who sat their menus in front of them. "So how have you been doing lately?" Andy asks Darcelle as they open their menus. "I have been a mess since you left. I tried finding someone else after we broke up, but all the relationships I thought were going to last didn't last very long. Two guys told me I'm too dark for them." Andy put his menu down, and looked at Darcelle. "I'm sorry." He says to show sympathy for her. "I missed you so much, and I am so glad we reunited when you were overseas. Every time I tried to forget you, i would always be reminded of you again. I did date a girl once over the years named Renee, but it didn't last because she found someone she had deeper feelings for. Last time I heard about her, someone told me she was in the hospital because of an overdose of sleep medicine. She was found knocked out on her kitchen floor by her 7 year old son. Her son, Nick, got Renee's husband so he could call an ambulance for her. Her husband is your good friend Chris." Andy gasped in shock, but kept looking at the menu. By that time, Midori was already at the table. "Hello. My name is Midori, and I'll be your server. May I start you off with something to drink? We have Coke products." she said while laying out their beverage napkins. "I'll have cherry coke please." Andy stated, and tapped Darcelle to let her know that it was her turn to order a beverage. "I'll have cherry coke as well please." She said quickly. The server acknowledged their requests, and walked off to get the beverages. "Well, I guess I am doing alright. As you know already, I have a wife named Ayano. We have been together for 20 years. We now have a 17 year old daughter named Megami who is an absolutely ambitious young woman who strives for the best in things. She is the student council president at her school. She is so daring, and a very special person in my life. Honestly, I wouldn't want anything to change." Andy said as he finished looking at the menu. "Here are your beverages. Are you ready to order, or do you need more time?" the waitress said as she got a pen and notepad ready. Andy and Darcelle ordered what they wanted immediately after she got done speaking. "Alright. I will put that order in for you." Midori stated as she took the menus, and walked off. Darcelle reached over, and lightly touched Andy's hand with fingertips. "Oh Andy darling, I thought you and I had something deep. I thought we were going to work things out." She said with a soft voice. Andy leaned forward, and stated "We do. However, I am in quite a sticky situation right now. I'm married to Ayano, but yet I'm in deep love with you. Like I said, Megami is special to me too, and I want what's best for her as well." The girl picked up Andy's hand, and kissed it softly. "I'm sure we can make things work out. As you know already, I'm richer than Ayano is. Despite not being able to hold relationships due to my dark personality, I am living a better life. I could get Megami into a high-class school for both her last year of high school, and her college years. If there's anything else you're concerned about, consider that addressed by me. I could give you the best life ever." The young man looked at Darcelle in shock. "Really?" He asked in disbelief. "Of course I can. I'll do anything for you." she replied without hesitation. "Look Darcelle, I don't know what to do right now. Let's just wait a while." Andy said calmly. Darcelle nodded, and the waitress appeared next to their table. "Here's your food. May I get anything else for you?" Andy looked at Darcelle, and then back to the waitress. "No thank you." He said politely. When the two started eating, they became too focused on eating that they didn't say anything else until they were done. When the waitress brought their bill to the table, Darcelle paid it right away. When they got up, she set a tip for the waitress out on the table. After getting done eating at the restaurant, they had 4 hours until Ayano and Megami left school. "So where should we go next?" Andy asked with curiosity. "I saw this local store nearby on the way here, and I want to check it out." the girl replied with determination. The childhood friends got into Andy's vehicle, and drove down to the store. "Alright. Here we are! Let's go Andy!" the girl with black hair exclaimed as they parked the car. After taking the keys out of the ignition, they got out to walk into the store. Darcelle was very excited to check out the store, but she tried to maintain her excitement so she can stay by her friend's side. As soon as they walked into the store, a store employee greeted them. "Welcome! Is there anything I can help you find right away?" he said with a smile. "No thank you. We're just looking." Darcelle said as she grabbed a cart that was parked nearby. The store was huge, and it contained everything Darcelle could possibly want. It was basically a bigger version of Hot Topic, a store that can be visited in the real world. "This is like paradise!" she said while pushing the cart around. She kept looking left and right to make sure Andy was still with her. "I've never been in this store. it looks great." Andy replied with a smile. "Oh my goodness! I've always wanted this, but Ayano would never let me get it." He said as he pointed at what he was talking about. He was pointing at a necklace that had his name on it. "Oh my goodness darling. I don't see why Ayano doesn't want you to get that. You deserve something special like that necklace." the girl replied with sympathy. She looked beside the necklace that had Andy's name on it, and she found a necklace that had her name on it. "Oh look Andy darling! Here's one with my name on it! Put your necklace into that cart, I'll get it for you." The boy with black hair obeyed, and put the necklace he wanted into the cart. Darcelle decided to buy the necklace with her name on it in the cart as well. As they looked around, Andy found a few shirts he wanted that Ayano would never buy for him. Being the rich girl she is, Darcelle offered to buy the shirts for him. Andy accepted without hesitation. A few minutes later, they were ready to check out so they could go on to the next thing. They wanted to do as many things as they could before it was time for Andy's wife and daughter to return home from school. Along with what Andy wanted to buy, Darcelle even bought a few things she wanted for herself. Some of her items were the necklace with her name on it, a couple band posters, a bottle of perfume, and a new shirt. The store wasn't too busy, and the childhood friends were third in line. While in line, a girl in front of them who was also waiting asked "Are you guys together? You look like a cute couple." Andy shook his head, but Darcelle spoke before he could. "We're not together right now. Just figuring things out." the girl smiled politely, and continued talking. "My name is Anna, and this is my boyfriend Tristan. We're from overseas, and we came because there was a festival we attended earlier this week. We head back tomorrow night." Before Andy or his friend could speak, a tall boy with blonde hair turned around to face them. With his blue eyes looking right at them, he said with a smile "I'm Tristan, Anna's boyfriend. Nice to meet you." Anna, Darcelle, Andy, and Tristan all smiled at each other politely. Before Andy could speak, it was Anna's turn in line. "Babe, do you got our debit card?" the girl with long strawberry blonde hair asked. "I sure do baby. I'd never forget that." He said as he pulled out a debit card from his wallet. "I like your wallet. Where did you get it?" Andy asked quickly. "I got it here in the wallet section." Tristan replied with a smile. "Darcelle, hold up. I'm going to get a wallet quick. I need a new one." Andy went to the wallet section for five seconds, and returned with a light blue wallet that said his name on it in black letters. "Now I'm ready." He said as he put the wallet in the cart. Within seconds, it was there turn to check out. However, Tristan and Anna didn't leave the store. they were waiting for Andy and Darcelle because they were interested in talking to them more. Being a good friend, Andy helps his childhood friend set the items by the cashier. As he waited for Darcelle to pay for the items, he chatted with Anna and Tristan. "My name is Andy, and I am originally from overseas as well. I am originally from Fargo North Dakota, but came here for a festival many years ago. I met my wife at the festival, and we instantly fell in love with each other. My wife's name is Ayano Yamada. She convinced me to move here, but I had to go back to Fargo for a business trip. I left in January, but came back today. I have a 17 year old daughter named Megami, and she is an ambitious, sweet, and beautiful young woman. She's the student council president at her school. My wife is the principal at Megami's school. This is my ex, Darcelle. She came back with me so she could see a concert. We went to the concert this morning. She is trying to get me to break up with Ayano so I can be her lover again, but I don't know yet. I love Ayano, but yet I love Darcelle at the same time. I'm trying to resist the urge, but she's pulling me in." Tristan and Anna nodded, and looked at each other with concerned looks. "Ah I see. Hey, we're from Fargo too. If you and Darcelle get back together, maybe we can all fly back to Fargo together." Anna says with excitement. Tristan grabs her hand, and says "Anna, babe, Don't get ahead of yourself. Let the guy figure his life out. He will do whatever's best for him and his daughter." Anna smiled, and kissed Tristan on the cheek. "You're right sweetie. Sorry." she says as she begins pushing the cart to the front of the store. "I'm sorry, she does that a lot. It's just Anna being herself. Anna is gender fluid, but she likes her real name as well as her pronouns. She says she likes them because it's what she's used to." Tristan says as he waits for his girlfriend to return to his side. Finally, Andy's friend finishes paying for the merchandise. Anna, Tristan, Darcelle, and Andy all walk out of the store together. As Andy puts the cart back by Anna's cart, Darcelle speaks up. "I'm Darcelle. I am from Fargo North Dakota as well, and I'm also gender fluid. I sometimes prefer to be addressed as Elle, but I don't mind if people call me Darcelle. I prefer the pronouns her, she, and hers." Anna and Darcelle high five each other. "We'll become best friends!" Anna exclaims with a smile. Anna and Darcelle exchange phone numbers before splitting up. Andy and Darcelle walk back to the vehicle, and decide on where to go next. The girl speaks up quickly "We should go to a park. I hear there's a park filled with cherry blossom trees and Sakura trees. I also heard there's tons of beautiful flowers there as well as a absolutely beautiful fountain." Andy smiles and nods at his friend's statement, then starts the engine. On the way to the park, The girl with long black hair tells her friend about a Japanese legend she heard about from one of her friends. "i heard there's a legend that if someone confesses to another person by the fountain while holding a rose, the person they're confessing to is guaranteed to accept and fall in love with that person." she said as she took her necklace out of the bag. With a scissors she found in the glove box, she cut off the tag. At a stoplight, she begins putting the necklace on. Once she was done, Andy quickly glanced at her. "oh wow. you look absolutely amazing with that on." A few seconds after he returned focusing on the road, the light turned green. Darcelle replied with a smile "I do? Wow! Thanks Andy." Andy smiled, and replied "You're welcome." As her friend drove, the short girl with blue eyes hooked her phone up to the aux cord. On her phone, she had a Spotify playlist named Darcelle's jams. From that playlist, she chose a song she thought Andy would like. "Andy, remember when we were at my graduation party, and this song came on when we fell in love? That was an absolutely spectacular moment." The song she played was a rock song by Sleeping With Sirens called Save Me A Spark. When Andy first fell in love with Darcelle, that song was playing in the background. A half hour later, they reached the park. There was a sign by the park entrance that read "Welcome to Mystic Park." As they drove into the park, Darcelle rolled her window down for a breath of fresh air. In the park, there was a small pool, a basketball park, a camping area, a fountain, and an endless field of flowers. Finally, Andy parked the car in an isolated spot in the parking lot under some shade. As soon as he turned off the car, Darcelle unlocked her door to hop out. "Wait for me." Her friend called out as she opened the door. The girl obeyed, and waited for Andy. The friends walked to the top of a hill from Andy's vehicle, and looked around. Andy picked a few flowers, and handed them to Darcelle. Instead of hanging onto them tightly, she gave them back to Andy. "No. you keep them." She said playfully. "No. They're for you." Andy said with a laugh as he gave them back to his friend. The playfulness continued even after they sat down on the top of the hill. "I want you to have them Andy." Darcelle said playfully as she tossed them back to him. "No. Come on Darcelle! I want you to have them." He said with a laugh. Tossing the flowers aside, Darcelle leaps forward to give Andy a hug. The hug was so big that it knocked him over, and it caused the friends to roll down the hill together. As they rolled down the hill, they both laughed uncontrollably. As they were reaching the bottom, Andy accidentally kissed Darcelle on the lips. When they finally stopped, Andy's friend laughed in excitement  "Ha ha ha! You kissed me. I guess you really do love me." The boy looked at his friend, and laughed. "No I didn't kiss you." He said with a smile. "Yeah you did! Just look at yourself in the mirror! you have black lipstick on your lips." The girl said as she smiled and laughed. She pulled out her pocket mirror from her pocket, and gave it to the young man. Andy laughed as he looked at himself in the mirror because he discovered that his ex was not lying to him. He really did kiss her. He shut the mirror quickly, and returned it to her. "Oh come here my big love bug!" Darcelle said once she put the mirror back in her pocked. She kissed Andy back, and then laughed loudly. The friends began kissing each other playfully, and ended up laying in the field of flowers hugging each other tenderly. "Come on! I got something to show you!" Darcelle said as she grabbed her ex's hand. They ran to the fountain, and held hands. The girl pulled one of her hands away, and picked a rose off the ground. Andy knew she was about to confess her love to him, so he took a step back to listen to her speech. "Andy Yamada, I have loved you ever since the day we met back in kindergarten. Back then, I was too shy to admit my feelings to you. Even when we tried being together after high school, I was just too timid to tell you. I know you're married to Ayano, but I can love you more than she ever could. I can give you what you've always wanted, and I can give you the best life ever. I can even be the best mother ever for Megami. Andy, honey, I want you back. You're that special someone I've always loved. Please come back to me." Andy closed his eyes for two minutes to think about his decision, and opened them once he made up his mind. "Darcelle, you have provided a very convincing confession. Honestly, I loved you ever since we were in Kindergarten as well. I'm sorry things didn't work out between us before, but I'm sure we can make things work. I feel it's time we start over. I love you Darcelle, and I accept your love confession." As Andy accepted the rose he was being given, the girl cried happily. The boy hugged her tenderly, and said "I promise I'll never leave you again." After putting the rose in Andy's vehicle, the couple climbed up the hill once again. "Ready for this?" Andy asked as he grabbed his girlfriend's hands. "Yes." Darcelle replied happily. They rolled down the hill together kissing each other on the way to the bottom. They both laughed once they reached the bottom. "It's time to go now." Andy said a few hours later. The couple had spent a few hours in the park as a relaxing way to get out of the busy traffic. It was time for them to go because Megami and Ayano were on their way home from school. Darcelle drove the car so Andy could sit and think about what he was going to tell Ayano and Megami. "You can come in with me if you want, but please stay silent." Andy told his friend. "Alright." Darcelle said as she drove. For the rest of the way home, everyone was silent. When they finally arrived at the Yamada home, they noticed that Ayano's car was already there. "Alright. Here we go. Brace yourself." Andy said as Darcelle parked the car. As soon as his friend turned off the car, Andy unlocked his door to start heading in. Darcelle got out, and quickly ran after him once she locked the doors. The boy took his house key out of his pocket, and unlocked the door. "Ayano! Megami! I'm home!" he said as soon as he opened the door. Ayano stood at the top of the stairs after she changed out of her work uniform, and watched as her husband came in. She smiled as he came in the door, but her expression changed when she saw his childhood friend come in behind him. As Darcelle locked the door, Andy began walking up the stairs. Ayano backed up so he could get into the living room. Within a few seconds, the other girl was right behind him. As Andy stood by the television, his childhood friend took a seat on the couch. Ayano takes a step forward, and slaps her husband across the face. "Andy James Yamada! What are you doing with your ex girlfriend? Why is she here in Tokyo, and why is she in this house?" Darcelle leaped up from the couch to hold Andy back from Mrs. Yamada. "She is here because there was a concert she wanted to see. She saw the concert this morning, and she wanted me to go with her. We spent the day with each other to reconnect. You know? What you do when you reunite with someone you haven't seen a long time." Andy spoke in his defense. "Oh and Ayano Dawn Yamada, don't slap me like that. You have never done that before. If you do that again, I'm breaking up with you." Megami heard everything, and came out from her room. She took a seat on the couch, and watched. Ayano Yamada took a step towards Andy, and slapped him for a second time. Megami sprung up to hold her mother back. "I guess that's settled then Ayano. Since you've slapped me really hard across the face two times, I'm breaking up with you. I guess you are like those dangerous girls everyone hears about on television." Andy stated with a sad look. He proceeds to pack up his belongings. Darcelle waits for him downstairs as Megami keeps holding her mother back to make sure she doesn't slap anyone again. As soon as he's done packing his stuff, Ayano's ex husband begins walking downstairs. Darcelle stands up to help him. As Andy starts walking out the door, he turns around because he hears his daughter call out to him. "Dad! Wait for me! I want to come to!" Megami says as she lets go of her mother to pack her things. "Megami darling, What about school, and what about your role as student council president?" Andy asks as he set1 s his suitcases down. "My friend Osana can take over my role. I want to go with you, and go to school overseas." the daughter replied. "What about your mother?" the father asked as he began walking up the stairs to help his only daughter. "Mom is adopting two other girls. She'll miss me, but she will be fine." Megami replied as she packed her things. A couple hours later, Megami is finally all packed and ready to go. As Andy walked towards the stairs with some of his daughter's suitcases, Megami followed with the rest of her things. Ayano stepped towards Megami, and slapped her across the face like she did to Andy. She then tried preventing Megami from reaching the stairs by putting one arm in front of her. "Mom! stop it! I'm going with Dad because you slapped him and I across the face. That was uncalled for. Goodbye mom." Megami said as she slipped out of her mother's grasp. Mrs. Yamada tried to attack her daughter again, but Darcelle spotted the attack attempt. "Megami, Look out!" she yelled from the door. Miss. Yamada looked behind her just in time, and started sprinting down the stairs. Once Megami reached the front door, Darcelle hugged her quickly, and helped her take the suitcases to the vehicle. Andy started the truck, but got out to say his last goodbye to Ayano. Realizing what she did to Megami and Andy, Ayano ran down the stairs crying out loud. "Andy! Megami! I didn't mean to slap you! I'm sorry. I don't know what got into me. Please don't leave me!" The father of the teenager held hands with Ayano for the last time. "Ayano Yamada, the damage has already been done. You can't take back what you said and did. It's too late. Now because of your actions against us, Megami and I are leaving you here alone. Have fun with your new daughters." Mr. Yamada released his grip on his ex wife's hands, and then dropped them completely. He walked back to the vehicle where his daughter and new girlfriend were waiting. "Goodbye Ayano." They all said at once as the vehicle pulled out of the driveway. The ex wife dropped to her knees, and cried for a while. When she was done, she went back inside to forget about what just happened. "Alright Ayano Dawn. You need to be more careful next time, and don't act like a little girl. Time to start acting like an adult." She said while fixing herself something to eat. With her only daughter gone, she had no one to talk to. As she thought of movies to watch, she called Hanako and Aya. "Hey there Hanako! Get you things ready as well as Aya's. The process I need to go through in order to adopt you is almost complete. I'll be over to pick you up in a few minutes. Be ready." She said with a smile. After Hanako acknowledged Ayano's statement, the conversation ended. At least Mrs. Yamada would have two daughters to talk to despite losing Megami.
