Mayumi's DeathA Chapter by Noah Wayverlynn
On the same day Taro and Kazumi left with the Yanavilanson family, Ayano calls the girls into the kitchen to share the news. "Girls! I would like to let you know that two boys who used to attend Yanamikarah High School, Taro and Kazumi, are no longer attending school. They are moving overseas with a caring and loving family. The family reported that Taro and Kazumi were being abused by their parents, and had bruises all over them. I reported their parents earlier today, and Child Protective Services told me that Taro and Kazumi made the right choice. They told me that as long as the boys are safe, there's nothing to worry about." Megami looked at Osana, and then back to her mother. Aya told the girls "When Mayumi hears about her boyfriend's departure, she's not going to be happy. She's going to be heartbroken." Ayano looked at Aya, and replied with a serious expression. "That's true, but we need to explain to her why he left. She will probably understand. If she really loves Taro, she would be happy that he is safe. She would be happy that he is going to be living a better life." The girls nodded as Ayano put a pan of spaghetti on the table. The garlic bread was nearly done, and the soda options were lined up on the counter by the sink. Everyone was hungry after doing self defense class that night, and they were ready to dig in. Just as Ayano was about to sit down to eat her dinner, her phone rang. "Ayano Yamada speaking." She said in a soft voice. Instead of sitting down, Ayano walks into her bedroom so the girls can talk without having to whisper. A few minutes later, the principal returns to the table with her phone in hand. "Girls. Mayumi wants to see us. I scheduled at time for us to go see her tomorrow. Be prepared to tell her about Taro." The girls were too busy eating, and they didn't respond. Finally, Mina responds quickly. "Sounds good Mrs. Yamada." The girls finish their dinner within a few minutes, and Aya begins washing the dishes. After Aya washes the dishes, Osana rinses the dishes to make sure there's no soap left on them. Mina dries the dishes, and puts them away. Megami heads outside to check the mail. When Megami opens the mailbox, the first thing she finds is a letter from her father. Her father was overseas for a business trip, but had no idea when he would return to Tokyo. Another thing she found was a package that was sent to her from her father. The rest of the mail was for her and her mother. With her hands full of mail, the principal's daughter walks back into the house. Once she sets the mail on the table, she closes the door. "Wow! That is a lot of mail!" Megami's mother exclaims as she finishes wiping down the stove and counters. As Ayano puts the rag to the side, Megami begins looking through her mail. "Mom! I got a package from Dad!" she says as she grabs a scissors that's laying nearby. Ayano Yamada grabs her phone, and begins recording her daughter open the package. Megami Yamada goes crazy tearing the box open because she is so excited to see what her father sent her. Finally, she completely opens her package. With the rest of the girls joining them now, everyone was watching Megami. "No way! It's the brand new Xbox One X! Wow this is amazing. I love it I love it I love it!!!" Megami yells with excitement as she tosses the box to the side. "Oh my goodness! he even got me the Halo Master Chief Collection!!" she exclaimed while showing the game to everyone. "Megami, he even got you a new controller. It's even your favorite color, blue." Her mom said as she took a seat at the table. Everyone watched Megami in shock. "I'm jealous of you now girl!" Mina exclaimed. "Now time to open my mail. Megami, you can continue opening yours as well." the mother stated. First, Mrs. Yamada opens a letter that her husband sent her. The letter read
"Dear Ayano, I miss you so much babe! I miss Megami too. Despite being away for so long, I am happy to announce that tomorrow will be my last day here. I will be coming home on Wednesday. I will be leaving early Wednesday morning. Hopefully I can get there Thursday night, or Friday morning. I got to visit my family while on this business trip, and they were absolutely delighted to see me again. They kept going on and on about how heartbroken they were when I moved to Tokyo. I really hope Megami likes her package. I found it at a rummage sale, and the seller told me that they were in perfect condition. They told me that they never used it because they were just too busy, and they were selling it at a very cheap price. You know my childhood friend I introduced you to before we moved to Tokyo? Yeah, my ex Darcelle Zaydingsfield. She came to see me at my hotel last night. She came around begging me to get back together with her, but I told her I was with you. She didn't take that too well, and tried everything she could possibly think of to get me back. I love you so much, but I honestly don't know who to choose now. I honestly think she's more "my type." I mean, her and I have a lot more in common than you and I do. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have mentioned that. I love what you and I have. I'll see you when I get back into Tokyo! Tell Megami that I miss her and I love her. Yours Truly Andy Yamada" After reading the letter, Ayano stood by the window with a sad expression. Finally, she came to her senses when she looked around the room. "Why would he mention his ex in his letters? He has never done that. I really hope he doesn't get back together with her. I mean he's with me, not her." Megami walked to her mom's side, and hugged her. "Don't worry mom. If he really loves us, he would come back to us. He would leave his ex begging on her knees." The mother hugged her daughter back, and replied "I guess you're right sweetie. We will just have to wait and see." As time passed, the Yamada family opened the rest of their mail. By the time they were done reading through everything, it was getting late. The rest of the girls went home after Ayano read the letter she received from Andy. Megami and Ayano went to bed because it was a school night, and it was almost 11 at night. The next day, the girls followed their normal daily routine. However, They went to the Tokyo jail to see Mayumi. Since Aya was too afraid to talk to her after that incident at school, the rest of the girls told Mayumi about Taro. Immediately after the girls finished delivering the news about Taro's departure, Mayumi began to scream. Ayano and the girls left before anything else could happen, but they could still hear the high school student's screams. Finally, they couldn't hear the screaming anymore. Once they got into the car, the mother turned on a local rock station to listen to on the way home. Megami was very disappointed in the way Mayumi reacted to the news they gave her. She thought that her ex friend would take it more mature like an adult should, but that was a mistake. After a 20 minute drive, everyone arrived at the Yamada residence. "Mina and the girls went upstairs to turn on the television to watch the news. Ayano receives a call from Kentaro Nakamura shortly after she locks the front door. "hello." she says quickly. "Hello Ayano. I have some sad news for you and the girls about Mayumi. The police at the Tokyo Jail found her dead in her cell just a few minutes ago. They discovered that she somehow smuggled a pocket knife into the facility, and had it on her this whole time. Police found out Mayumi used the pocket knife to commit suicide. She cut her wrists, and then slit her throat shortly afterward. When some security guards were watching it on camera, they tried to have police get to her cell immediately. However, she was already dead by the time they got there." Shocked by this news, the woman replied. "Oh my goodness. She was fine when we left. She was screaming because she heard that her boyfriend left the country. Never knew that would take such a dramatic turn." As Kentaro replied to the response, Mrs. Yamada took a sip of hot tea she made as she was listening. Shortly after Mr. Nakamura replied to the response, they ended the conversation. Mrs. Yamada called the teens downstairs to deliver the depressing news. After hearing the news, Osana replied with a sad, but mature expression "This news is very depressing. yes. However, Mayumi should know better. Just because Taro moves overseas to seek a better life, doesn't mean that she needs to commit suicide. I mean there were other boys out there that she crushed on before she hooked up with Taro. Just because her boyfriend had to break up with her, doesn't mean she would be single for the rest of her life. She should have handled that news better than she did." After discussing the matter, everyone sat down in the living room to have a movie night. Tomorrow was Osana's birthday, so her parents didn't mind how late she was out as long as she returned home before midnight. As the night progressed, the girls forgot about Mayumi's suicide because they were watching so many movies. Mina and Osana texted their parents telling them that they wouldn't be home that night since they were staying at Megami's house. Aya texted her sister notifying her that she was staying at Megami's place that night as well, and she also texted Hanako about everything that happened that day. After yet another movie, everyone fell asleep except Ayano. When the movie ended, she got up to get some blankets for the girls. It was a cold night, and she didn't want the girls to be cold. She grabbed Megami's favorite blanket, and just a random blanket for the rest of them. She also grabbed Megami's favorite stuffed animal she always sleeps with at night. Megami calls it Lindsay Yamada. As soon as the got the girls all snug and warm, she went to her room so she could go to bed herself. As soon as she turned off the light, she jumped into her bed, and began dreaming about the day Andy would return home.
