On The RoadA Chapter by Noah Wayverlynn
The next day, Taro and Kazumi wake up an hour after their parents leave the house. They packed everything they wanted to take with them overseas, and put their suitcases by the door. Since it was already 9:30 in the morning by the time they finished packing, they decided to grab something to eat for breakfast. Kazumi cooked eggs and sausage for the two of them, and Taro made toast for both of them. When they were just about to sit down and eat, they heard a gentle knock at the front door. "Who is it?" Kazumi yelled as he walked towards the door. "It's Makenna Yanavilanson." the voice called out from the other side. The Japanese boy with blue hair opened the door. "Oh hi Makenna. Taro and I are almost ready to go. We're just eating breakfast. Come on in!" he said as he let the girl into the house. He lead her to the kitchen table where Taro was sitting at, and pulled a chair out for her. "I talked to the school about you guys going with my family overseas, and they said alright. I asked the school principal to alert child protective services about your abusive parents. She did, and they now know why we are taking you with us." Mrs. Yanavilanson stated as she sat patiently waiting for the boys to finish eating. "Sounds good!" Taro said after he finished the last bite of his breakfast. "I will start loading your stuff into our friend's pickup truck so we can be ready to go as soon as possible." Makenna said as she stood up and began walking to the living room where the boys placed their bags. Finally, Kazumi finishes his breakfast. He and Taro help Makenna load the truck with their bags. The truck was full because the Yanavilanson family also had their stuff loaded too. Eventually, they finished loading the truck. Kazumi decided to climb into the back seat with Susan and Spencer while Taro sat in the middle of the front seat with Makenna and Sam. Since Taro was the skinniest person in the front, Sam and his wife were not worried about being comfortable or not. "New York City, here we come!" Spencer shouted gracefully as Sam started the truck. As the family traveled to the Tokyo Airport, Makenna began digging in her purse for the money she saved up for the flight back to New York. Susan fell asleep on the way to the airport, but Spencer and Kazumi stayed up to watch CreepyPasta videos on Kazumi's phone. They watched videos about Slenderman, Herobrine, and the evil sonic (Sonic.exe). Taro put his headphones in because he was sensitive to creepy things, and he listened to his music he had saved on his phone. Eventually, Sam and Makenna heard the videos Spencer and Kazumi were watching. "Boys, can you please watch something else? You are going to give us all nightmares if you continue watching that stuff. Put on some Minecraft videos, or put on some happy Roblox videos. If you don't want to do that, then please play games or something." Mrs. Yanavilanson requested as she looked wrapped her left arm around Taro. After a while, Sam Yanavilanson heard his daughter silently crying in the seat behind him. "Susan, dear, what's the matter? Why are you crying?" he asked with a concerned tone as he focused on the road ahead. "I can't sleep. Whenever I try to sleep, I keep having bad dreams that include what the boys are watching back here." Susan cried silently. "Boys! I told you to turn off the creepy videos! Your sister can't sleep because you keep watching those stupid videos." The woman in the front seat exclaimed. The boys looked straight up front, turned off the video, and replied sadly. "Yes mom." Kazumi finds a happy video to watch with Spencer on his phone. They were watching a video about a guy who won a skateboarding contest. The guy won a thousand dollars and a free vacation in Orlando, Florida. Finally, the family of six reaches the Tokyo Airport. The family goes into the Airport, and up to the ticket stand. "Six tickets to New York City please." Makenna says as she pulls out her wallet to get out her debit card that works everywhere in the world. The man at the stand nods, and puts six tickets in an envelope. Makenna pays the man for the tickets, and then thanks him as she grabs the envelope. "Give your tickets to the people who are standing by the gates that lead to the runways. Once they stamp your ticket, you will be able to board the plane. Set your bags on the suitcase checker, so it can get scanned and verified before going on the plane. Your suitcases will be by the security station where the security staff will hand them to you." The man added before letting them go to the waiting area. When they reached the waiting area, the family put their suitcases on the suitcase checker that looked like an assembly line. They remembered to put their names on the bags so that their belongings didn't get lost while being checked. As the Yanavilanson family waited for their suitcases and their flight, they talked about what they were going to do once they got back to New York City. Sam and Makenna wanted to quickly take Taro and his brother to their local courthouse to get their names changed. They wanted to stop by the courthouse to go through the adoption process as well. Spencer wanted to hang out with his girlfriend Stephanie, and he also wanted to spend time with his best friend Nicholas. Susan wanted to hang out with her friends Anna, Justine, Andy, and Kellin She also wanted to spend some time in her room so she can be alone for a while. Her best friend Jayce was out of town for a month, so she couldn't hang out with him until he got back. Taro and Kazumi wanted to explore New York City, and they also wanted to spend time with their new parents so they can get to know them better. Eventually, their suitcases were returned to them, and it was almost time for their flight. A few minutes later, it was time for them to head to the runway gate. "Airline 4 will be leaving in 10 minutes. Passengers boarding Airline 4 must report to the gate, and board the plane immediately." A voice called out from the speakers. They arrived at the gate, and showed the ticket stamper their tickets. Once they all got a stamp on their tickets, they began to board the plane. The family sat in the seat their ticket had on it, and they were lucky enough to have rows 3, 4, and 5. Nobody sat in sections 1 or 2 because those seats were reserved for handicap people. After 7 minutes passed, it was time for take off. Pilots were ready, passengers were all on board, and everything was ready to go. "Airline 4 ready for take off!" A voice called out. The voice was a woman who was the co-pilot of the plane, and she was making sure that everyone was ready to go. Once she confirmed that everyone was ready, she went back into the pilot's station and closed the door. Almost immediately after the co-pilot got back into the the control room, Airline 4 was taking off. Everyone made sure their phones were on airplane mode or off. Taro and Susan talked as Kazumi and Spencer fell asleep within the first few minutes. Makenna and Sam were just sitting there next to each other talking about what was on their to do list when they get to New York CIty. "Okay, so our main priority should be taking Taro and Kazumi down to the courthouse to complete the adoption process, and to change their names. Depending on how long that takes, we can do other things we need to do. One thing we need to do is set doctor's appointments for them to meet the family doctor." Sam said quietly with a smile. Sam's wife nodded in agreement, and responded. "Yes. That's a good idea." Makenna took out a book from her bag, and began to read. "Keep Talking babe. I'm listening." she said politely as she tapped his hand quickly. As the woman read her book, her husband began talking about what he saw in Tokyo. "I saw a beautiful fountain in a spacious park. There were tons of flowers as well. I saw some beautiful cherry blossom trees as well as some apple trees." The husband's wife lowered the book from her face, and replied. "That's awesome. I saw some spacious meadows filled with flowers. I also got to see a nice water park where people were playing. There was a really big pool in our hotel, and I really wish we would have taken advantage of it. We could have gone swimming, and had a blast. The pool area had the big pool, a hot tub, a huge water slide, and a kitty pool. I can't believe how massive it was." Sam nodded, and looked at the book his wife was reading. "So what are you reading dear?" he asked. "I'm reading The Glass Castle." Makenna replied as she marked her spot, and showed him the cover. "Sounds like you really love that book. This is your sixth time reading it." Makenna smiled at Sam, and responded with a chuckle. "Yes babe! I love this book. Ever since you bought it for me, I have been enjoying this book.. Did you know there is a movie based on this book? I saw the trailer, and it sounds pretty good." Sam nodded, and began looking out the window. Since they were both getting tired, Sam and Makenna decided to go to sleep. Makenna put her book back in her bag, and kissed Sam on the cheek. They were hoping that when they decide to wake up, they will be back in New York City!
