Riley's birthdayA Chapter by Noah Wayverlynn
Two days after Riley started 8th grade in Toledo Ohio, it was her birthday. Riley woke up early to prepare for school, and her mother came up to her room for her birthday hug. Raquelle also had a birthday surprise for Riley, and she wanted to give it to her right away because she thought it would be handy for school. "Happy birthday darling!" Riley's parents exclaim as Riley opens the door to her room. She had it closed so she could get dressed for school. Since it wasn't time to head to school yet, Raquelle and Todd sat down with their daughter to give Riley two surprise presents. "Go ahead and open these gifts!" Todd said as he took a seat on Riley's emoji bean bag. The first gift read "To Riley, From Mom." Raquelle and Todd took pictures as Riley opened up her gifts, and they wanted to remember how happy she was. "Oh wow!" Riley said as she opened the first gift. The box that her mom had her open contained multiple items, and most of them were handy for school. She got vampire binders for each class, vampire notebooks, black and red pens, and a True Blood locker poster. "I hope you like those gifts. I know that you are a huge fan of vampires, so I thought I would get you those." Riley smiles and nods as she reaches for her father's gift. Todd looks at Raquelle and smiles as his daughter opens the gift. The box was big, and Riley was curious to see what was in there. Again, there were multiple gifts in one box. The first thing Riley pulled out of the big box was a Twilight laptop, and it had stickers that Riley could use to decorate it. The laptop was useful for Riley at school and home, but Todd bought it for her so she could use it to study. Some fun things that Todd hid in the box were a signed Fifth Harmony album, a pair of black headphones, and a tiara. Riley wanted to open more gifts, but it was time for her to get to school. "Thanks mom and dad." she said as she went downstairs. As she was walking out to her dad's car, she noticed something wrapped up in the living room. "Hey dad. What's that supposed to be?" she asked as Todd came grabbed his keys. "That's one of your birthday surprises Riley. I can't tell you what it is. You have to open it tonight in order to figure it out." Todd responded as he rushes Riley out the door. Riley was excited, because her parents planned a birthday party for her that night. On the way to school, Riley asked her dad if she could guess what the surprise was. Her father said "Go ahead, but I will say no even if you get it right." Riley guessed eight times until they got to school, and was ready to go once the car stopped in the parking lot. "Have a good day darling." Todd said as his daughter got out of the car. "Thanks Dad! Love you." Riley responded just before she closed the door. After she closed the door, she ran quickly to catch up with Annabelle. "Annabelle wait up!" Riley yelled as her father drove away. Annabelle stopped to let her catch up. "Hey Riles. Happy birthday! Are you having a birthday party tonight? I got your invite, but I lost it." Annabelle came up with Riles for her friend's nickname when they were in gym together on the second day of school. Riley approved the nickname, because that's what a lot of people call her. "Yes I am having my birthday party at my house tonight if you'd like to come. It's at 6:30, and it ends at 8:30." Riley replied as they entered the wing where their lockers were in. Riley only had six friends in Toledo so far, and her parents allowed her to invite four of them. Riley's parents allow any of her friends to hang out with her outside of school, However, her parents do not allow her to hang out with boys because they are trying to protect her from the risks that falling in love too early may entitle. As Riley and Annabelle were putting their backpacks in their lockers, Riley noticed a bunch of notes on the front of her locker. Some of those notes read "Happy Birthday Riley!", "Hey Riley, I just want to wish you a happy birthday,", and many other birthday wishes. Riley was wondering how people knew that it was her birthday, but then she realized that the school had access to that information and that she told some people before the actual day came. As she went through the school day, everyone wished her a happy birthday. She thought that it was nice, and she thanked everyone who wished her happy birthday. Her friends brought her small gifts, but they weren't big because huge gifts were not allowed to be given during school. The day went fast just like Riley expected, and she was going home before she knew it. As she was riding home, her mother asked "So are you excited for the party tonight honey?" Raquelle's daughter nodded as she smiled, and she went back to looking at the beautiful scenes outside. When they got home, they decided to get ready for the party even though it was only 4:30. There were only five people coming, but the Aberdeen family had a lot to do in order to get ready. Riley wanted to set up the decorations, and she did them as her parents set up the rest. Two hours later, the party began. Instead of a guest book, they had a single piece of paper to sign in. The corner where the huge gift was sitting filled up quickly as Riley directed guests where to put them. During the party, the Aberdeen family had the wii and some music set up in the living room. They also set up the disco ball Riley won at Planet Galaxy. The disco ball costed 1400 tickets, and it took Riley six visits to reach the required amount. Riley's family had a buffet table set up in the kitchen for people to grab a bite, and they also had fruit punch in pitchers at the end of the table. "Makenna! It's such a delight to see you here! Welcome to my birthday party!" Riley says as her bestie walks in. Makenna Avalon was a seventh grader at Riley's school. She was also new to the community, and moved there the same day Riley arrived. Makenna and Riley became best friends when Riley helped her up after falling down in gym class. Riley helped Makenna by guiding her to the bleachers after helping her up, and then told the gym teacher that she needed to go to the nurse's office. Ever since then, they have been best friends because Mandy Lane wouldn't have been able to help her if Riley didn't help out. Makenna's moms came to the party as well, and hugged Riley tight as they said happy birthday to her. Ariel Phoenix and Lexus Avalon go with their daughters everywhere they go except school, and they look out for them. Makenna has two older siblings named Jonas Avalon and Lizzy Avalon, and they were playing the Wii as their sister chatted. "Hey Tina, I have an idea for our new band." Riley said as she grabbed her strawberry lemonade off the table. "Yeah? Let's hear it Riley." Tina said with a smile. "When our band meets up for the first time on Saturday, we should talk our parents into taking us to Village Inn so we can discuss band things. You know, lay out the basics of the band as well as who's doing what part." Riley said with excitement. Tina nodded, and then she said "Yes. that sounds awesome. That way we don't have a big fight over everything." A few minutes after Tina and Riley finished talking, the party came to an end. Riley gave everyone a high five, and thanked them for coming out despite the party ending so late. The Aberdeen family went to bed right after cleaning up, because they had important things to do the next day. Riley had to go to school, and her parents had to go to work. As Riley climbed into bed, she wished upon a shooting star. As Riley closed her eyes, she let the moonlight beam down on her while she thought about the awesome things that happened that day. Within the next few minutes, the house grew silent. Everyone said their good night prayers, and then fell asleep right afterward.
