Riley's Moving DayA Chapter by Noah Wayverlynn
On a warm Saturday morning, the Aberdeen family was getting ready to move out. they were preparing for the move since last Saturday, and they couldn't wait to move. They were moving from North Dakota to Ohio, and they had quite a drive to get there. Riley had two weeks until her first day at Springfield Middle School as an eight grader. "Riley, can you please bring your desk down here?" Raquelle asked from the bottom of the stairs. Riley runs downstairs with a few boxes, and then she says "Yes mom. I go grab it right now." Riley's desk was a bright pink and purple color, and had bright flowers on the top. As Riley ran up and down the stairs while carrying boxes, her mom tells her "Careful girl. you don't want to fall." Riley nods, and slows down while carrying the boxes. A few minutes later, the Aberdeen family was ready for their big move. "Well, we got everything now." Raquelle says as she gives her daughter a high five. To celebrate the moving day, Raquelle's daughter was wearing a colorful dress with high-heels. Raquelle went with the casual look, but had leggings on. As Riley's mother drove the car, her father was driving behind them in a trailer that contained their property. Riley sat in the back instead of the front, because she wanted some room to lay down or do whatever she wanted. The family owned a blue van that had seven seats. The two seats were able to be pushed down to make some room if needed, and Riley used that space when she wanted to lay down or play her games. Their van had a movie player, and the girl would use it to watch movies on long trips. On Riley's last day at Valley Middle School in Grand Forks, she stayed up late to watch movies in the van. The van did not need to be turned on in order to watch movies, so it was possible to watch movies without wasting gas. It would take the Aberdeen family almost a full 24 hours to get to their destination, so they decided to only stop when needed. At 4pm, the Aberdeen family had a few hours left of their long road trip. However, they were able to reach Toledo Ohio by eleven. By that time, Riley Aberdeen was asleep in the back seat. When she wanted to sit on the seat, she had to buckle up so that her mother wouldn't be pulled over by police. As Riley slept, Raquelle put on some music to keep her awake. She was listening to some dance pop, but the radio was on low so that it wasn't too loud. The Aberdeen family had snacks in the van, so there was no need to stop for any. Suddenly, Raquelle receives a call from her friend Tori. "Hey Tori! What's up?" Raquelle asks once she pressed a button on the dashboard to answer the call. "Hey girl! I tried to get a hold of you to see if you wanted to go to a movie with me. I'm in Toledo Ohio." Tori responds to her friend's question. "If I could, that would be delightful. however, I am still on the road. I'll probably be there by eleven, and my daughter and I have a lot of unpacking to do once we get to the new apartment." Mrs. Aberdeen responds with a sigh. She wanted to go out with her friend Tori, but they haven't seen each other for two months. Tori was recently on a trip to New York for two months, and she just got back to Toledo. "Sorry Tori, but not today." Raquelle says sadly. Tori reassures her friend that it's alright, and then she says "Hey sweetheart, if you need help unpacking at the new apartment...I'll be happy to help you and Riley." Riley's mom thanked her friend Tori, and she says with a smile "Sorry girl, but I have to go. If you want to help unpack, please meet us at our apartment later. We are quickly stopping at a rest stop, and then we'll be there as soon as possible." The two girls hang up, and Raquelle is back to jamming out to her music. The van has a built in device that can play calls when a phone is connected. It can also allow people to answer calls and talk on the phone without any hands on activity. Three hours later, the Aberdeen family stops at a Days Inn hotel to rest. As they pull into the parking lot, Raquelle calls Tori to let her know that she's going to be late. "Come on Tori! Pick up!" Raquelle says as the phone rings. "You have reached the voicemail box of Tori Summers. Unfortunately, I am unavailable to take your call at this time. Please leave me a message, and I'll get back to you." a voice said on the other end of the line. "Hey Tori. this is Raquelle. Just letting you know that we won't be able to make it in until tomorrow morning. We are currently at Days inn, and we are going to rest a little before we finish the road trip." Mrs. Aberdeen said with a sigh. The Aberdeen family took a set of clothes and some bath products in, and left everything else in the back. Todd already went to check in, and stood by the door with the hotel key. "We are in room 18. Follow me." he said as the girls walked up. They hoped that they would be able to finish the trip in the morning. As they settled in, Todd ordered pizza for the night, and the girls sat on the bed. Once they eat and shower, they will be heading to bed. A few hours after they checked in, They were ready to sleep. Riley left some soothing music on for everyone, and Todd closed the blinds. The Aberdeen family hated having the blinds open, because they had the feeling they were being watched. Once everyone was in bed, they were out like a light. The next morning, They got up to have breakfast. Riley had a bagel with strawberry cream cheese, and her parents had sausage and eggs. Riley wasn't too hungry, so she just went with the bagel. They headed back on the road once everyone was done with breakfast, and Toledo was only four more hours away. Riley was sitting in the back of the van coloring while watching a movie. The sound played on the radio as well, so that Raquelle could hear the movie. Mr. Aberdeen was still driving the truck behind the girls, and he was in close range of them. Four hours later, The Aberdeen family reached Toledo. As Riley watched her movie, Raquelle called Tori to let her know that they just pulled in. As soon as they pulled into the parking lot of their new apartment, they met Tori and said "We have a lot to do. Let's get started."
