Unexplained Magic

Unexplained Magic

A Chapter by Noah Wayverlynn

Eleven years after they entered into the world, Ella and Faith were active and on their feet. The year was 2015, and the girls were in 6th grade, and went to school at Starlight Middle School. Starlight was a private middle school, but was like the public schools. Part of their day included a special sign language class, because the girls took sign language classes ever since they were in 1st grade. They took sign language classes, because they wanted to be able to communicate with their mother since they knew she was deaf. When the girls got home from school every day, they did their homework while watching Disney Channel. Their nursery from when they were babies was converted into a room with other things. The girls got to sleep in Princess beds instead of cribs, and they had more freedom in their room. In their newly converted room, they had a homework table, pink wallpaper, posters of their favorite celebrities, a storage space for their toys, and a beautiful place to put important things. Since the girls were instructed to leave their shoes by the door when they walk in, there was not place to put their shoes. If they received a new pair of shoes, they could set them on the shelf full of shoes downstairs. There was a shelf for everyone in the household. Each shelf was labeled with a sticky note to indicate whose shelf was whose. On the wall, there was a poster indicating what color shelf their shoes were at. Jordan's shelf was labeled with a blue sticky note, Annalisa's was labeled with yellow, Faith's was labeled pink, and Ella's was labeled purple. Ella and Faith were perfect children, and they never got into trouble. Every Sunday, the West Family attended a private church that only had services in American sign language. With practice from their ASL classes, the girls understood what they were saying. On December 10th, Ella fell off her sled while sledding with her friends after school. Ella and her friends were sledding at an indoor sledding area, since it never snowed in Sunnyville. It was a free sledding place, and the middle school kids loved going there to sled. Ella's knee started to bleed when she hit the icy part of the area she was sledding at, but she didn't cry about it. Somehow when she hummed a certain song she knew, her knee was all better. She never knew that she had that power, and was surprised when she saw that she had not bruises or scars. When she got home later that day, she signed to her mother "Mom, you probably won't believe what happened today. I fell off my sled while sledding with Cece, Lacy, Katie, and Amber. It hit my knee really hard on the ice. However, when i hummed my favorite song....I was all better." Annalisa was so surprised  that she accidentally dropped her pen. She was writing something down while Ella told her the story. In response to her daughter, Annalisa signs "Really? I'm really surprised that your knee healed, and all you did was hum your favorite song. I wonder how that happened though, because Jordan and I don't have powers like that." Ella responds to her mother's surprised response "Hmmm I wonder how I can do that then. It is really surprising to me now too, since You and Dad don't have that power." It was just going on 7pm, and the girls wanted to go to their school dance which starts at 8:30. Despite it only being Thursday night, Jordan and Annalisa agreed to allow their daughters to go since they were being so obedient. Ever since their infancy, Ella and Faith were obedient and never broke a rule. It was the famous Snow Craze dance that the girls were attending that Thursday night. The West daughters and their parents attended the dance, and had a blast. Jordan and Annalisa volunteered to supervise the dance, and they wanted to since their daughters attended school there. The West family didn't eat before they left home, because there was going to be a meal at the school during the dance. The dance lasted from 8:30 to 10:30, and they were all exhausted by the time it ended. Cece was there with her friends Bella and Rocky, and the three girls found Ella within the crowd of Starlight Middle School students. Cece came up to Ella, and she asked "Hey Ella. how is your knee doing? I saw the incident, and i was going to help you. However, my mom wanted me home right after I was done sledding. I was so worried about you, and I had Amber check up on you. Did she?" With a calm angelic voice, Ella replied to Cece "Don't worry, my knee is doing fine. Come with me, and i will tell you all about it. Rocky and Bella can come along with us." Accepting Ella's request for a private place to chat about it, Cece, Rocky, and Bella follow Ella to a private area. "okay here's the scoop. I was singing as I was sledding, but I didn't realize how fast my sled was going. I crashed onto the ice, and my sled went skidding past me. I tried to get up, but my knee hurt so bad and it was bleeding. Now the big secret is that it hurt so bad that I started humming my favorite song while touching it, and all of a sudden the pain just went away and my knee healed. I don't know how I got it, but I think I have healing powers."  After hugging her friend, Cece exclaims "Wow that's surprising. despite the big surprise, I am so glad that you're okay. I was so worried about you that i was crying the whole way home." Ella responds to her friend "Amber came up beside me a short time afterwards, and asked me if I was okay. I told her I was, and her eyes sparkled with relief. When I finally got up, Amber offered to walk home with me. I accepted with delight, and she walked home once she knew I was safely inside my house." Cece and her friends smiled with relief, and hugged Ella once more. After their private conversation, they went back out to join the dance party. Suddenly, the music stopped. Everyone was asking the DJ why the music stopped. Apparently, the playlist had ended, because the DJ didn't have very many songs listed on the playlist. Faith begins to exclaim "Don't worry everyone! I got this." After a minute of silence, music began to play again. When Faith West stepped off the stage where the DJ was stationed, everyone looked at her with a surprised expressions. Even her parents and her sister were surprised. After the dance party ended at 10:30, everyone ran up to Faith and they asked "Hey Faith, how did you do that? You made music play, and you didn't even touch anything." Faith kept on saying "I don't know. it just happened." as her family exited the school. During the ride home, her family kept asking her the same question as everyone else did, and She gave them the same answer. Faith snapped her fingers, and all of a sudden music began to play on the radio. She snapped her fingers again, and a chocolate shake appeared in the cup holder that was between her and Ella. Later that night when Ella and Faith were sleeping, Annalisa and Jordan were downstairs discussing the surprises they discovered that night. "I wonder how they are doing that. We don't have magic powers like that." Jordan signs to his wife with a surprised look on his face. Mrs. West responds to her husband "Yeah hun. I am as surprised as you are. I wonder how Faith made the music play without touching anything, and i wonder how Ella has the ability to heal just by humming her favorite song. It must be a miracle or something." As they head up to bed, they agree to talk to Dr. May about it. They decided to take the girls in for a check up on Sunday after church, and they would call her tomorrow to set up the appointment. Dr. May hasn't seen Ella and Faith since they were babies, and she would be excited to see them in their middle school age. As they head to bed, they kiss each other good night, and turn off the light. It was time for the West family to rest up for Friday morning.
