Coarse Throat

Coarse Throat

A Poem by Vic
"

Why don't you love me? I'd do anything for you to love me back.

"

When I smile,

only to watch you turn,

it dissolves away and makes me just

Ah! Scream!

And it breaks my voice.

My throat hurts,

I can't talk about what ails me.

When the time draws near,

will it disappear?

Or remain forever?

When you smile,

it's like I can laugh again.

Even though it's not meant for me.

Even though my laughter

can't escape the coarse walls

of where it's meant to emerge.

I try to shout out

as you walk away

but my voice is too weak.

And I swear I won't cry.

I swear I can fight.

I'll show you what you want.

I'll be want you need.

You will look at me.

You have to look at me.

I'll become what you've been looking for,

and steal your gaze away.

But I'm losing the battle,

because I can't even shout the war cry.

Loving and adoring someone that doesn't acknowledge you even exist can really take it's toll on your mind, your body and, most importantly, your spirit. Somehow, we can't seem to shake that feeling, it drapes us like a cloak, follows us wherever we go, and sometimes lingers far after the recipient of that unrequited love has exited our lives forever.
I loved the way you voiced this. Such eloquence!

As I read this I'm suffering from a very sore throat and when I speak it's but a sqeak.

I like your style of writing, from what I have seen in this. Well done.

Great poem, I can relate. I love the third paragraph where you wrote "And I swear I won't cry. I swear I can fight. I'll show you what you want." It's simply beautiful!
