Blood Mountain

A poem by T.S. Ulmus and Nix

They fled from the dread of society’s disapproval

Star-crossed lovers moved by flight from the world’s glares and whispers

Whiskers of light shone bright through autumnal haze

In the maze of the woods at the foot of Blood Mountain

They explored the terrain in the cool balmy air 

Ever aware of the flare from autumnal brush

No rush through the kaleidoscope of color

Lovers’ hands brushed titillatingly against each other as they wandered higher

They couldn't tire of teasing and pinching and laughing all-day

He swatted away a bug when drawn by her squeal

It got real as she stared into his green eyes

A sunrise in temperature, her skin grows hot

It's not just his gaze but the ways he can flare

They dared to climb high where the sky

Comes to touch Blood Mountain

Intertwined fingers and glances that linger

As they trek ever higher to the spire

The passionate fire within them only grows

Love flows between them and her heart pounds in her ears

They hear leaves crunch under every foot

At the summit, they set camp and start fire

To retire and watch the sun set before them

Burning stems of pine crackle and give chorus

Subtle winds sing a song as hands join and fingers intertwine

Divine feelings of flushed cheeks and pulsating hearts

He starts to get closer and closer

She couldn't close her eyes, passions rise

And she finally leans in for the kiss

This was the moment building all day far away

At the top of distant blood mountain

An eruption of sublime interruption of time

Tucked under a blanket of the stars soft glow

They knew the terrain but hidden lands still remain

Fresh lands of flesh to explore

They implore and desire for an unending night

But the light finally ends the joyous conversation

While they sit and stare into each other in contemplation

As the sun finds the peaks of Blood Mountain once more

I love making poems with you, Ts!!! They always turn out so good.
I'm really glad we went with a lighter one this time.

Well done you two, ... a good description of a romantic evening that plays out so nicely. You took us on a trip hand in hand with your descriptions. The rhyme scheme worked well, especially the slant rhyme ... hard to tell where one started and the other stepped in.

Thanks, Mr. Ted!! I'm glad our poem took you on a journey!! I've never done the slant rhyme before, so that was new. It was actually really slow when we first started, Ts threw me a short little eleven line poem, and because I had never written a love poem, I had no idea where to go. But eventually, I started to write a story of what I would like and forgot it was even a poem, then I shot it back to him and he turned it into this! Using a bunch of my idea and his, I think our poem turned out well. Thank you for your review, Mr. Ted!!! :))))

Okay I am publishing this review under my own name, but don't tell anyone.
I love " an eruption of sublime interruption of time"
and I am so tired of that idea that society dictates what is okay or not for the individual to do or decide.
Screw them...we have to please ourselves or we will never accomplish inner peace.

Lol, okay. I'm glad you liked our poem :) I guess you're right, but sometimes the pressure of society tends to become too much for some people (the people in our poem) and they just have to run away for a day to get away from it all.

The rhyme scheme with this piece is so lovely. It feels so intimate and passionate. When reading it's the kind of love I can read in a good novel, the kind most people secretly long for. Such great job guys!
