CHAPTER TWO

Second Chapter of "Phoenix Parker"

I live alone, in a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom house that I inherited from my parents, they died in a horrific car crash when I was 16, I pretty much took care of myself from then on, but since it’s the law that I was a minor and needed an adult in the house, my dementia ridden grandmother looked after me. Well, more like I looked after her. I’m twenty now, and Maw Maw died shortly after my 19th birthday. Which left me in this old rickety house with 2,654,000 dollars. I’m comfortable.   

I pick up my phone and call Daniel, my best friend since for longer than I can remember. He has been by my side through everything. Through the deaths and the breakups and vice-versa. We’re always there for each other, so it was very convenient that he only lived 2 minutes (by foot, If I ran) away from me. “Yo, Dan man, can you come over? I know it’s late, but I need some company.” I quickly said.

“Sure, meet you halfway?” He was my neighbor, we lived on the same street and It was a long street. Danny and I grew up together, we had sleepovers when we were little, we played kickball together, we went shopping together, we did everything but go to the bathroom together (cause you know, that’s a girl thing). He’s been by my side and loyal for longer than I can remember.    

“Yeah, ok” I started walking up the road, watching as that third streetlight from my house flickered, as it always does. In the faint distance, I could see him. Six foot 2, brown hair, green eyes, tan skin, he’s on the swim team so he has an athletic build. Other girls were always vying after him like he was catnip.

I had looked over my shoulder constantly, watching, waiting for one of Lizzy’s goons to jump out. “I know they’re after me…” I quietly whispered to myself. Fear started to grip me by the shoulders. I started running. Tears started to sting my eyes. “Stop! Leave me alone! Stop coming after me!!!” My voice was slowly getting louder without me even realizing it. I was running as fast as Forrest Gump, and with my eyes closed. Then I ran straight into Danny.

I didn't think about that...I think you have to be like...21 to own a gun though...you know how age minimum has been raised everywhere a couple years ago. Thank you for taking the time to read chapter two 😃

I feel bad for Phoenix. That must be so lonely. I like how you describe Daniel as being like catnip.
I would certainly lean more into the tension you are creating in the last paragraph- perhaps through more atmospheric description. Also for reader understanding, is there a particular reason she is calling Daniel?

Phoenix thought that she had heard her backstabbing ex-best friend who was out to get her, so her paranoia gets to her, and she wants someone (Daniel) to keep her company, and provide protection, even when she doesn't need it, it's still nice to have her best friend around.
