![]() Tribute to the Little BirdA Poem by Maureen V. Hanover![]() ".../But one little bird/Rests/Down on the ground,/.../For they did not see her,/.../Not one/Fluttered down/To help her up;/She is still waiting/.../"![]() Chilled air still in fog- A rumble swallows you whole, And you listen- Relieved and welcoming it. Kind greetings, Then abrupt cold shoulders- And the rumbling abandons you to the dark, Shivering an eternity; And the savior could not come fast enough- But they are not your saviors; They simply could not care. Little twits and flutters around From birds, shunned and homeless- Searching. And comes an essence; Half savior, Half predator- And they hide, Quaking Ever so slightly. Wind whispers around mockingly, Invisible- But always watching; Always- And an opposing side, Like the rest. The order is given; All the little birds Fly away to a perch Ever so temporary; To flit Back and forth between- But one little bird Rests Down on the ground, Observing And yearning For the sense Of togetherness She never felt; For they did not see her, Broken on the ground Not one Fluttered down To help her up; She is still waiting For the one To show her How to fly Again- And one day May open her wings And become part Of the flock Once more; So that she may- Finally, Finally- Be able To fly home Again. © 2018 Maureen V.
