The Essence of a Mind

The Essence of a Mind

A Poem by Annique le Roux

No amount of words

could describe

the snaked bundle

of emotions

which now reside

within my heart.

Hope.

Such a small word

for a feeling far greater

and more life-giving

than the very essence

of a miracle.

Anguish.

Indescribable, yet not

unfeelable, as I wish.

The very spark

which sets my heart

ablaze.

Confusion.

As broad as

this thought.

Darting insects

fluttering heavily

around my mood.

Despair.

For the words

do not form

as they should.

Perhaps I merely

cannot utter them

And faith.

Greater than the

culmination of the former.

Greater still than

the unnamed.

Yet, remaining second to…

Grace.

For I cannot

achieve it.

I cannot design,

shape or imagine it.

And I do not deserve it.

Yet I have it.

A halo of light

surrounding

the writhing snakes.

Imagery wraps its cherishing arms around the words of your poem, bringing to life the metaphor of emotions that seems to breathe a calming notion of colour. A perfection lines the ink, though unseen by your pen it lurks a hidden mischief, and glittering in the darkness of your turmoil it whispers the words you have not shared. Connotations swirl a sweet aroma of symphonies and hand in hand you walk with each emotion, carrying them with you a yearning to learn from them blooms, a surprising attachment to your snakes throws you into a timid spiral of trust as you delicately cherish the halo bestowed upon you, beautiful.
