Nature's Ongoing Battle

Nature's Ongoing Battle

A Story by Annique le Roux
"

An extended metaphor

"

Theirs is a battle that began at the beginning of Time and creation.

Theirs is a battle that will never cease or grow quieter.
Each side with numbers as numerous as the leaves in a forest.
Theirs is the battle between sea and sand.

Men have fought countless battles – battles against society; rules; idea; styles – battles against themselves. But never has there been such a battle such as this.

Endless lines of assailants launching wave after wave of violent attacks upon the ever-ready defenders.
Each onslaught is met with the same fierce determination as could have been seen a thousand years ago. It is this determination that causes the attackers to scream in fury and send out even more daring troops.

Horses rush at the defenders, pure white and almost shining in their anger, filling the air with cries of pain as their broken bodies crash onto the sharpened swords of the land fighters. Their blood is quickly absorbed into the ever-thirsty making way for the bodies of more hopeful attackers.

Our world is tirelessly guarded by these fierce soldiers who have not once allowed the liquid enemy to enter.

It is an almost unknown battle taking place on our shores everyday. The perfect example of Nature guarding her world and never allowing her elements to run unchecked.

Their’s is the ever-present battle of Nature.
