Trifling Existence

Trifling Existence

A Poem by Nitesh Mahabal

For the greatest test for us,
My dear brother,
Is to taste the wine of life,
And still stay sober,

What I have learnt,
In the process of my being,
The hand that helps a beggar,
Is better than the mind that admires a king,

The precious relationships,
With your friends and lover,
Are meant to be casual,
Not to last forever,

Sharing a deep conversation,
While in desperate times of need,
Is replaced by being drunk,
And getting high on weed,

People give reasons and excuses,
Instead of being better for right,
And just getting accustomed,
To the new ways of life.

This offering is unusual in that it appears to have no unified, ongoing theme. Instead, we are given a series of philosophical musings. Verse two is especially profound, reminiscent of Solomon's proverbs.

Very well said and expressed sir Nitesh. A recipe for living a better life and not a trivial one. Good work sir...
