A dreadful question

A dreadful question

A Poem by Sara
"

Yes, you all know it

"
Kindergarten.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
A princess.
"Why?"
They're pretty.

Primary.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
A vet.
"Why?"
I love animals.

High school.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
A vet.
"Why?"
I'd rather save animals than humans.

College.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
A writer.
"Why?"
They see the world differently.

Wednesday, 16 September, 03:07 PM
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
An idiot.
"Why?"
They seem happy.

ahahahah i love this ... Erikson and Maslow would agree with this to a tee says i! ;) love the wry humor .. closing is a killer ... oh to be the idiot ... they are happy :)))))))))))))))) well.... i woudl say to your protagonist ... do hang in there ... gifts and purpose and internal peace and comfort will be yours if you don't give up ... great read for me .. fast paced, smooth flow .. points and theme clearly made ... great bit of satire!

:) .................
I like this a lot. It is very simple in structure but addresses a question that we all have to confront. I am at the other end of life (hopefully still some to go) where the question becomes what have I done. Now having more time, I am just having the confidence to call myself a writer. I'm not too sure about wanting to be an idiot but sometimes the demands of life just get too much! I hope you stick with being a writer!(but you already are!
Well done. Alan

We humans evolve in strange ways due to our environment. When we get to the end of our years we're asked--what would you have done differently?

I also like the high school answer. It shows you've been exposed to not only idiots and morons but patterns that repeat themselves throughout life.

Nicely done.

LOL.....how ironic that the older we get, we realize how little we really know...,.:)

Heard once that the real test of life is what type stories we can tell at the end. He with the greatest stories, wins! Great writing! :)

I totally agree. I hope we'll end up with the greatest stories :)
and thank you
Excellent, thank you for the smile. A very nice concept, attitudes changing as you grow, perspectives move and innocence makes way for reality. Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed this.
