Diamonds Don't Shine For Ordinary Girls

Diamonds Don't Shine For Ordinary Girls

A Poem by Nipplegrinder

What happened to those diamonds, sweet one?
In a box tucked away?
At the bottom of a long-retired purse in a closet?
How they shined on your hands, neck, and ears.
Glinting on your beautiful face.
Diamonds don't shine like that on the ordinary girls.
Sure, they help.
But you wore them, and the world crashed for me.
I saw the stars as if for the first time.
Why have you tucked them away?
Is there a reason, a rhyme?
I know you still have those diamonds, sweet one.
Won't you wear them for me,
just one more time.
But, also.
Wear them for you.

Very sweet. The longing is interesting. I imagine this being a request to return to one's previous self a bit.
