The Last Chapter

The Last Chapter

A Poem by Nini

The Last Chapter

Time stands still
as I picture your face in my mind
I've memorized every line...
your lips
your smile
your eyes

I strain my ears
to hear the sound of your laughter
the melody of your voice
no longer fills our home
I struggle with the echo of silence

Unwrinkled linens are a constant reminder
of the lonely nights that await me
no longer do I feel your warmth
I only feel emptiness of where you once were

The years we spent together
were abruptly brought
to
an end

The last chapter of "US"
has been read
I am slow
however
to put the book back on the shelf

I don't want to forget a single moment
memories
are all I have now

There is a deep longing in this piece to hold on, even though the speaker knows it's time to let go. This piece has an eloquent flow. Nice write!

I can feel your lonliness and nostalgia for love lost. I like the imagery you create between the person, the fabric, and the books on the shelf; I think they add good contrasting texture =)
