Life Interrupted

A Poem by Nini

Life Interrupted

Life
is not always what we expect.
It doesn't always follow
the script
we have written for ourselves.
Little girls dream of growing up
and marrying their Prince Charming.
Little boys dream of growing up
and becoming a Super Hero.

Somewhere though,
we get sidetracked.
We may marry our Prince Charming,
but that is where the dreams end.

Life has a way
of throwing curve balls;
The reality of being grown-up
hits us
with hurricane force.

Life for some of us
is blessed with children.
The moment that child is laid in our arms
we have hopes
and dreams
for them.

Once again,
the pitcher throws the ball
and
we strike out.

For some,
those dreams do become reality.
For others,
the dreams they had
are shattered.

Our children grow
and we think
that life
couldn't get any better

Then
we get the news one day
that our lives
will be changed
forever

As we sit
in the chair
across
from the desk
We see the look
on his face
The look that tells us,
"I'm sorry".

As you walk
out of the office
together
hand in hand
You wonder
how you got
to this point.

You think of the
dreams
hopes
plans
you both once shared.

Dreams of seeing
your little girl
walk down the aisle.

Hopes of your son
one day
becoming
a world leader.

Plans of growing old
together
and watching
your grandchildren
play
in your yard.

You realize
with coldness
That
will
happen
for
only
one of you

How do you tell
those you love?

How do you make
them understand
you must live
each
day
as if it were
your last
together?

The pain you feel
is worse
than any
you have known.

Months go by
preparing
those around you
for the
inevitable.

The end
is near.

You look
into the faces
of
your children
and your hopes
and dreams
are now
different.

Your hope
for them
now
is that they
grow in love
and hope.
Not anger
and bitterness
for their
loss.

The plans
you once had
are now
gone.

Your hope
now
for your
Prince Charming
is for one day
to be filled
with
happiness.
For him
to find
someone else
to grow old with.

You are tired.

You know it is time to go.

You look
once more
at the ones
you love.

You close your eyes.
