Ever AfterA Poem by Sarah EmilyWhat happens after "happily ever after?" Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs was the inspiration.
Tangled in curlers, held together by bobby pins
lipstick lies and purpled lids hidden under caked cosmetic cover-up --
corsets laced tightly enough to
press into burns and bruises. Poison stings my lips -- tongue-numbing desire to peel back the flesh with my teeth. Strip the crimson from the apple, beckoning, take a bite. Friction between thighs where crisscrossing lines flirt upon the surface -- deeper along the path to a once sacred garden -- all the delicate flowers losing their petals before spring has ended. Tranquil mannequin encased in a glass box filled with the pungently sweet aroma of decay. The clinging scent of rotting autumn leaves. © 2012 Sarah Emily |
