The True Nature Of the PrincessA Poem by Nikolean
We danced, danced until the clock struck midnight.
I wished for the night never to end because I knew, once the clock struck time, all my love would be gone, everyone will be gone. It's night two. I waited for you here, under the grove in the forest, where we danced the previous night, where I felt loved. Loved by a man, loved by anyone. Once again, you whispered in my ear, the forbidden words. "Escape with me." I ran. The third night, I thought you would never return, but there he was, outside my prison, calling my name. I went after you, followed you back to the place we had danced. You whispered the forbidden words and I, I told you. Twelve days. Twelve dances. That was all it took. All it took to free me. The fourth night you came, draped in your princely garb- once again, we danced until midnight. The fifth, sixth, seventh, passed by so slowly, I thought you would abandon, but no, you did not. Please, don't let me fall, I wished in my head. Don't let me fall for this human. The eighth night ended. The ninth was sweet, we kissed under the lamplight, and for once I thought this may be the answer. The tenth, you held me in your arms, we danced once again, until midnight. Living like a ghost during the day, I danced with you through twilight. The eleventh came, you still hadn't discovered my secret. Dancing until twelve you told me, "I will come for you." The twelfth is today. As you came, I covered my face, under a dark hood, under all my clothes. You noticed, and tried to pry my hands away. "It is the twelfth night," I replied, unravelling my hood, showing him who I really was. I was, like a beast. "Leave me, where I belong!" I yelled to you, but you wouldn't listen. And you stayed as I cried. Silver tears, the tears of a beast. Then, in my arms, you were gone. You who accepted my true being, who accepted who I really was, was done away with my curse. I could still feel you warmth and could bear it no more, and weaved branches around us, making me sleep for eternity- together with you. © 2015 NikoleanReviews
