Tidal

Tidal

A Poem by Nikolas

It comes like a wave, without much warning

Except for maybe a minute or two

And then I start drowning

The tsunami crashes in uninvited

As the invisible current pulls me

Down, down, down

And the pressure closes in

Suddenly I cannot breathe

Then the light fails to reach though

And Then I forget it all together

But then the waves recede

And dry up around me

Leaving as instantly as they came

As if I hadn’t been killed

But even then I know they will return

And again without forewarning

Come to murder again, the black waters

Beautiful and terrible

As a nightmare, temporary and evanescent

But still remaining an invisible scar

A dramatic rendering of how life's events, or perhaps life's emotions, overwhelm and change us.
