X

X

A Poem by Nikolas
"

About my mother. (X in the title refers to the X chromosome)

"

First impression

Purple and blue mass

Silent cry, white gowns in a furry

Away, away…

Brown eyes, yours but darker

Yet the halo the same

And the hair too

Thin and fine, not fathers black wires

Mother, I have known you for seventeen years

Little warrior

Food burner, word spreader

I’ve watched you with the same eyes

This entire time

We are changing mother

But our metamorphoses are inverse

I have seen the lines on your hands double

The skin itself has succumb to the earths invisible grasp

Your voice has gone from pavement to gravel, to dirt

Your hands haven’t the strength to hold

Hold on to a jar, hold on to life

I knew it from the time that you could no longer hold me

And even my bones became too much for your lap

Mother, who use to ward of the night terrors

That plagued my youth

Whose determined voice could cut through diamond

Now cuts through my heart

When I hear you complain of a new pain

Like some obsolete vehicle

The rust is ensuing

Mother, you no longer check to see if im still breathing at night

Now, I listen to hear if you are

Your medicines colleting

The orange white hatted twins, triplets and so

Keeping you here, keeping you here

Mommy mom mother carrier away

No more time left to play

Author's Note

Nikolas
I wrote this, after noticing how much my mother has aged, and after I came to the realization that she is getting old. Please make suggestions and comments.
