FeedingA Chapter by NikkoKitsune do not feed like normal foxes. Instead, they feed off of the essences of the 13 elements.
Once you have discovered your element, you have become a true kitsune. However, kitsune must feed off of the essences that the 13 elements. They can still eat human food, but kitsune will not be able to quench the thirst for essences and will eventually die if they do not feed of of them.
I bet you're wondering how kitsune feed off of essences. Well, when they are near or in one of the 13 elements, if a kitsune concentrates, they will be able to see a swirling mass of mist, called an essence, in their mind's eye. Next, you focus on draining the essence. You will see small strands of the essence swirling away into the unseen, and that "unseen" is your spirit. As easy as this may seem, feeding from essences has its consequences, which are listed below. - Wind: Feeding from the wind will leave a stale, unhealthy pocket of air that is hard to breathe until a stronger wind can dissipate it - Earth: Feeding from the stones and soil will leave the land cracked and blighted - Ocean: Feeding from the ocean leaves still, flat water with no wind or sea life to be found in the area - River: Feeding from a riverside or brook leaves tainted water, dead fish, and possibly a dry riverbed - Time: Feeding from time, or the lifespan of animals, ages things around a kitsune unnaturally and slows time, causing every task to be harder to complete - Void: Feeding from marshes and swamps leaves poisoned waters and dead creatures, while feeding from shadows either steals them or causes the darkness to become more bleak - Heaven: Feeding from magic may weaken the magic and feeding from knowledge may cause the knowledge to be forgotten, whilst feeding from starlight or the warmth of the sun will simply cause it to fade or disappear - Mountain: Feeding from stones and precious minerals will cause them to crumble and become more fragile, but feeding from mountain ranges will eventually turn them into barren wastelands and jagged rocks - Thunder: Feeding on harsh weather will quell the storm after producing a stale, lifeless rain. Electricity can theoretically be fed on - Spirit: Feeding from spirits will leave weak, lifeless ones, if any at all - Music: Feeding from music or poetry will cause it to become meaningless or make the composer or player lose their talent Remember, it is always easiest to feed off of your own element, but when it is not available, there are plenty of easy alternatives. Remember; if you do not feed, your spirit will reach out for essences on its own. If you do not permit it to, well, you will die a slow, painful death.
