Wolf Hunt chapter twoA Chapter by Nikki Hopesecond chapter to my book, getting the story really started in this chapter. Warning has graphic detail of greusome content.CHAPTER TWO Jake and the team arrived little over ten minutes later, by which time James large was supporting a bloodied nose and a black eye, courtesy of two attempted escapes. James grinned when he saw me “this is the first time you have let a guy touch you!” he winked “I’ve let men touch me before” I assured him “anyway two things you’re missing. He’s not a man and I’m getting paid for this.” “Point taken” he laughed watching the rest of the team shovel James large into the van. “Anyway sorry I can’t stay and chat, I’ve got to go, I’ve got a date” I smiled Jakes smile slipped off his face “but Tess “he whispered “Charles is supposed to be holding a pack meeting tonight. Even you have to be there” I laughed “unlike my brother, I do not view the pack as my pride. I’m not a werewolf like you and I’m tied to the pack in no way. I actual don't have to come to the meeting, though I do believe that I would turn up once at least if Charles didn't try to order me in to it and just asked me!” “Teresa...” Jake began sternly but I just walked off “Goodbye Jake” * I was late for my date. I rushed into the restaurant half an hour after I had agreed to meet my boyfriend Luke for dinner. I looked around frantic, convinced he would have given up on me and gone home. But that wasn't Luke’s style. I spotted him sat at a two person table in a dark corner; he was waving to get my attention. “Sorry I’m so late, but I was having a bit of an adventure” I grinned apolitically “You’re no more than five minutes late” he said mildly “Luke. I'm half an hour late!” “Really? Well I guess I could just wait forever for you.” he smiled I hid my face as I felt colour rising to my cheeks. Luke laughed at me “come on, let’s eat” We ordered the classical Italian margarita pizza. By the time we had finished eating I had forgotten about my encounter with a rapist and the fact that I was supposed to be at a pack meeting. In fact for once I felt completely relaxed. Until I got a phone call. I felt my phone begin to vibrate in my purse and pulled it out before it could start playing my embarrassing ring tone “contagious” in the middle of a posh restaurant. I looked at the screen which flashed ANNA in white block letters. “Luke sorry, I’m going to have to take this phone call” I groaned “It’s OK one of my friends have just walked through the door. I’ll talk to him for a while” he said in a voice that sounded far-off. I ran as fast as heels would let me outside and answered the phone. “Teresa Collin” I said in a business voice. “Teresa sorry but you going to have to get down here” Anna said “What? Anna. No! I'm off duty on Friday nights, and after that performance today I deserve a break” I moaned “Sorry, but save the pleas, your our paranormal expert and you've been requested for this case” Anna said a little smugly. “What?” I asked shocked “requested? By who?” “Get down here and you'll know. 13 newbout road, you’re going to need your pass” she said and hung up. I pulled my hands over my face, the stress had returned and the relaxed feeling id had earlier was gone. Know all I had to do was tell Luke. Back in the restaurant Luke was still talking with his friend. Neither seemed to notice me. I hesitated at the looks Luke was giving the man. The look of concentration on his face was too unusual for them to be talking about regular guy things. But curiosity got the better of me. Again. “Um...Luke? Sorry to interrupt but I’m gonna have to go. Anna wants me on a case tonight” I said awkwardly aware that the stranger was watching me. “Oh...what? Oh right Anna. No worry's I was gonna have to leave anyway. Turns out I have a job tonight too” he said waving a hand at his friend “this is my side-job boss Sebastian” Sebastian, I saw, was an old man with a small Grey beard and a receding hair line. He also wore way too much deodorant. “Nice to meet you Sebastian” I said politely “You must be Teresa. It’s very nice to meet you, I’ve been dyeing to meet you for quite a while” he in a rusty old voice emphasizing certain words. Suddenly he was quite scared of this frail old man. “Anyway. I have to go bye” I said and nearly ran out of the restaurant. I felt Sebastian watch me walk out. When I arrived on newbout road I could see why Anna suggested I would need my pass. There was a single house with police tape surrounding its front and a huge crowed on the side walk were the police deputies were having a trouble keeping the crowed back. They were lucky, I thought, the media haven't arrived yet. I stayed in my old Volkswagen bus to change out of my dinner dress and into my old crime scene overalls, I also took a Minuit to UN tie my hair and mess it up, just to go with my overalls. When I got out the media had arrived, but to avoid being recognized I quickly ducked into the crowed ad ducked under the police tape. “Sorry miss. Restricted access only you can’t-” a deputy began but showed him my pass. He took the pass from my hand and stared at it closely, as if all of a sudden red letters would pop up and spell out FAKE. “Teresa there you are what are you doing hurry up!” Anna yelled as soon as she saw me. I walked past the deputy and took my pass back. “What was that about?” Anna asked me. There were red rings around her eyes. “Stupid deputy thought my pass was a fake. Anna what’s wrong, you've been crying” I asked concerned and annoyed. “Nothing. Just....be prepared when you go in. it’s gruesome.” Anna hesitated. “Why did you want me on the case?” I asked “We think it was a werewolf who killed them” she didn't hesitate in telling me. If it was a werewolf this was serious. It would mean we had rouge. “Right” I said snapping on latex gloves “I’m going in” “Warning you might throw up” Anna said Anna was right of course about the fact I might throw up. As I walked to the house I could smell and see several of the officers who had gone in throwing up on the side of the house or in the bushes. I couldn't help but wonder what horrors lay inside. I was about to find out. As soon as I entered the house my instinct told me to walk out again. The whole house reeked of death and blood. I had to step out of the house for a few seconds to get over the shock. A cats nose is not as good as a wolf for scents and tracking, but our noses are much more sensitive. I'm not a werewolf. I'm a werecat. Not that I’m moon called or anything I don't have to shift on the full moon like the wolves, but I do shift and therefor when the English first came to America and discovered us, not only did they hunt us to near extinction, they gave us the name of werecats and unfortunately the name stuck. But like the werewolves, we are stronger than humans heal faster and have much better senses and of course we shift into leopard like 130 pound cats varying in colour as either black, brown or a darkish blue. After a breath of fresh air I went back inside, managing just to control my instinct. There was yet another deputy inside. “Where’s the body?” I asked him “Bodies” he corrected me “a family. You’re the wolf expert?” he asked sceptically I nodded at his question. “I expected you to at least look stronger.” he sighed as if I had broken his dreams “through there” he pointed at what I assumed was the bedroom. “Thanks. And I am strong. I could kick your a*s easily” He didn't look very convinced when I left him. Upstairs and outside the bedroom was the chief constable Garry. Boss of all the bosses, the boss who really doesn't like me. Or at least my line of expertise. “Miss Collin” he greeted me roughly. “Chief” I answered. “You sure you can stomach it?” he drawled “it’s no job for a woman” “I think, as a woman, I can handle it better than all those men outside throwing up against the walls” I retorted. Sexist idiot I thought. The only reason he had to employ me was because I was the only person in Middlestad who had ties to both the vampire and werewolf community. After all, everyone I worked with knew I was raised by a vampire and lived on the alpha werewolf property. Chief just grunted and I walked into the bedroom. Inside was a horrific sight. At first I thought the carpet was supposed to be red, only when I walked into the room and felt the squishy softens of the floor did I realise it was soaked through with blood. The walls, that had once been blue, were also plastered with the red, thick liquid. Around the room there was at least six white sheets, some small some large. I looked under every sheet at every body part; the wolf who did this was a messy eater. There was an arm here a leg there, but the torso of the two victims was both on the bed. The body parts had been gnawed on, with clear teeth marks. In some places there were complete chunks missing. When I finished assessing the bodies I walked back outside to tell the chief what I had discovered. “Well?” he asked grumpily. “Have you found were the killer entered?” I asked taking my time to pull off my gloves. “Glass doors downstairs are smashed on the outside; we expect that was the entrance and exit.” “So” I said “the killer breaks in downstairs. I'm suggesting that the husband got up to check it out from the fact that he’s on his back. So he was killed first. He has several broken ribs that would have caved in on his heart and lungs. The injury was probably sustained from being pounced on and slamming into the bed board on the foot of the bed. The wife was next. Then the feast. Probably took him no more than ten minutes to kill them.” “So it was a werewolf” he asked tiredly “Yes” “Right then. I want every one of those beasts down into the station immediately” he ordered “Chief. You can’t do that. We need their co-operation here. Not one of the wolves in our town would do this. I'll speak to the wolves. It’s what I’m paid for.” I turned on my heels and left. Preparing in my head to have a conversation with Charles that I didn't want to have. “Wait!” the chief yelled “What?” I asked. Now I was the grumpy one. “The bodies you only said about the husband and wife.” he said “Yeah so?” “They had two children.” “Well they weren’t there” I said suddenly alert “Great” chief ran a hand over his face “a double werewolf killing and two missing kids” I walked back out of the house, through the crowed and hawking media crews and towards my old van with numb legs. Two missing kids? Why would a werewolf take them? Did he take them? Or did they escape somehow? © 2011 Nikki HopeAuthor's Note
