If I said

If I said

A Poem by Ivy thomas

If I said " I just cut myself".
Damn how would you respond.
Would you embrace me in your arms.
Or yell at me all night long.
If I said " I want to run away".
Damn how would you respond.
Would you let me cry on your shoulder, let me feel safe.
Or take me to that place I hate.
If I said " I need you now".
Damn how would you respond.
Would you hold my hand just like old times.
Or would you let my world crumble and fall.

I like the rhythm. Each time you write "damn" I think it captures a tone that feels important to the person going through it. Lovely.

So vulnerable and filled with pain. So emotional and compelling. She is suffering and asks - Will you help me or will you destroy me again? Her life is in the balance. I hope she gets help and finds her safe place. This made me cry. Brava!

I like the contrast of the two paths a saviour could take. To piece together a lost will to live again, or to crumble their remaining life force...it is astoundingly beautiful.
