EXT. PINE FOREST - DAY

The sun lifts into the sky lighting a forest of pine trees.  A YOUNG WOMAN dressed in olive green fatigues, a cap and carrying several cloth sacks walks alone.  Her clothes are old and tattered.

She stops in a clearing in the woods and bends down pulling some items out of one of her sacks.  She ties a fishing line around a small branch setting a small snare trap.

EXT. FOREST CLEARING-DAY

There are a group of small pine trees that surround the young woman as she sits Indian style very quiet and motionless.

EXT. PINE FOREST-DUSK

The sun moves across the sky finally shining its colorful rays onto a rabbit caught by the snare.  The young woman appears with a smile on her face.

EXT. FOREST CLEARING-NIGHT

There is no moon in the sky tonight, but the stars are very bright.  Cinders from the young woman's fire seem to rise up to join the flickering lights above.  She pulls piece of meat off of the roasting rabbit, shakes it for a moment then takes a bite.  She leans back in enjoyment then looks over to her bags and removes a folded parchment.

Using the light of the fire, she opens and examines the crudely drawn map.

A dotted line can be seen leading to a lake.  She moves her finger down the dotted line to a mark just off the right side of the line.  There is a drawing of a group of broadleaf trees with a sign above proclaiming "Felon."

She smiles and then folds up the map.

EXT. FOREST-DAY

The sun is directly overhead as acoustical guitar music can be heard echoing through the woods.

EXT. DIRT ROADSIDE-DAY

In the middle of a group of oak trees a MAN sits alone playing an uplifting song.  He sings with great enthusiasm.  There is a solid metal belt tied around his waist attached to a metal chain.  The chain leads back a few yards ending to meet the mouth of a large metal box.  A crude metal sign hangs down from one of the tree branches displaying the word "Felon".

There is a table beside the man with a multitude of bolts, colored rocks, empty containers and other odds and ends.  A large display screen sits at the far end of the table facing toward the man displaying various incoherent messages.

The man beats at his guitar strings with his pick rapidly until it bounces free flying several yards away.  His smile leaves his face as he puts his guitar down.  He stands up and carefully walks toward his pick.  The chain follows him dragging on the ground until it lifts up.  He looks back at the metal box and the chain then back to the pick.  He reaches out extending his arm as far as he can.  His fingers are just a few inches from grasping the pick.  He turns his body and pulls the chain just a little more and he reaches out again.  He is slightly closer than before and he can almost touch the pick with his middle finger.  But, he cannot reach it enough to grab it.  The man's mood turns to sadness as he mutters something under is his breath.  He walks back to his chair and sits down.  His hands cradle his face.

The young woman emerges seamlessly from the woods just on the other side of the road.  She walks toward the man crossing the road then she bends down picking up the pick.

                    YOUNG WOMAN
            You lost something brother?

The man startled, jumps in his seat and whips his head towards the young woman.

                    MAN
            Oh yes brother, thank you!

She walks over to the man and hands him the pick.  She then strolls over to the merchandise laid on the table.  There are some trinkets and jewels on one side with the other side laying mostly metal parts and metal fragments.  She points to the pick in the man's hands.

                    YOUNG WOMAN
You should be more careful with

            such a valuable tool

The man looks down at his pick as the young woman quickly grabs a long metal bolt from the table slipping it into her clothing.

                    MAN
Yes, brother I shall head your

            advice with diligence

The man says as he then lifts his head back up with a frown.  He looks at the young woman picking through the colored rocks.

                    YOUNG WOMAN
            How much for the red?

                    MAN
Fifty five credits for you brother.

The young woman smiles and nods her head.  The man walks over to the screen and types on the keyboard.  He motions over to a small box connected by a crude wire to the computer on the table.  The young woman smiles and places her thumb onto the clear plastic top of the box.  The screen lights up displaying a fingerprint with scrolling facial images next to the print.  The faces stop scrolling displaying the facial image of an older man.  The young woman smiles as the tethered man looks at her then to the image then back to her and winks.  Their eye contact is broken by a beeping noise from the screen followed by a voice saying, "The Corporation Has Confirmed."  The large metal box that the man's chain is tied to suddenly kicks on creating a bit of a noise, lighting up display numbers.  A green light comes on and then two links of chain come out of the machine lengthening the chain as a whole.  On the bottom right corner of the computer screen a message displays "Freedom Ticker".  Underneath it another message displays "Only 12 More Transactions To Go!"

                    MAN
Thank you for your Corporate patronage

            Mr. Slivosky

The young woman nods, taking her purchase and putting it into a small glass container.

                    YOUNG WOMAN
            Until next time, brother.

                    MAN
            Indeed

The young woman walks a few feet down the road then turns around looking back at the man.

                    YOUNG WOMAN
Oh, by the way.  I think there is a

a group of men following me.

From the looks of it, they are bent

on inflicting great harm to me.

Could you, brother, if they ask,

tell them that I left here going

            North down the road?

                    MAN
Oh, yes.  I can do that for you,

            brother.

May I ask, though, why are they

            your tail?

The young woman has already turned and is walking away South down the road.  As soon as she is out of sight the man jumps up and walks quickly toward a small metal box on top of a metal tube sticking out from the open grass to the far right of his merchandise table.  He goes as far as his chains will take him then reaches with all his strength extending his thumb toward the metal box.  He pulls back in disappointment, as he is a few feet short of placing his thumb on the clear plastic side of the box.

LATER IN THE DAY

The man plays his guitar, but this time at a slower pace he plays a melancholy piece.  The man stops and remains quiet looking around with concern.

LAUGHTER can be heard in the distance and it is getting closer.  Approaching footsteps can be heard.

The man strains to look behind seeing a LARGE MAN sitting on a makeshift throne atop a platform carried by several men.  The large man is wearing a scaled aluminium suit of armor that is colorfully adorned with shades of blue.  Several gold chains dangle from his neck and glisten from the drool dripping down from his stuffed and chewing mouth.

                    LARGE MAN

             There, put me down there

The men struggle as they carfully position the platform down near the man and his table of goods.  Once free of carrying the weight, EIGHT HENCHMEN span out circling the man. Some of the henchmen quickly pick items up off the table, putting them down just as quickly then picking up other items and placing them in their pockets. The man tries to intervene, but he is quickly stopped by the blade of an axe pressed against his throat.

                    LARGE MAN
Don't be as dumb as your mother,

             felon!

                    MAN

Yes, a mother who births a felon

is as dumb as a melon

The large man smiles and the axe is withdrawn.

                    LARGE MAN

             Now, felon, you wouldn't have

happened to see a pretty girl

             come through here, have you?

                    MAN

Oh, yes, actually I remember a

             young scab coming through here

             a few hours ago.

                    LARGE MAN

Yes, she is a scab.  She denied

             my advances

One of the henchmen giggles.  The large man immediately glares in his direction.  All the henchmen silently look down in submission.  The large man gobbles a handful of grapes, shoving them all into his mouth.  He turns his attention back to the man.

                    LARGE MAN

Well, why aren't you telling me

              which way she went?

                    MAN

Oh, yes, she bought some substance

B then went North down the road

                    LARGE MAN

              Sunstance B?  That ethereal doesn't

even do anything but look into past

              what good is that?

The large man pauses for a moment.

                    LARGE MAN

Now, felon, you wouldn't be lying

to me about which direction she

              went, now would you?

                    MAN

Oh, no sir, I swear on Red

The large man's face glows with anger as he grabs a bottle of blue liquid.

                    LARGE MAN

              You blasphemous bunker baby!

The large man throws the can toward the man.  It rockets past, just missing the face of the man.

A red light begins to flash, a humming noise and small gear movements can be heard.

The large man widens his eyes a bit and searches until his gaze comes across a camoflauged turret type device hidden in the branches of one of the trees.  Its barrel is slowly moving to align itself in his direction.  A red light clicks on the top of the turret and a beam of red light strikes the large man in his chest.  It reflects off of one of his aluminium scales at an angle striking one of the henchmen.  As the henchman is reduced to a pile of dust, the large man bellows out a laugh.

The humming noise stops, the turret returns to its original position and the red light fades out.

The large man looks at the turret then back to the man.

                    LARGE MAN

Well?  I am still waiting for

              your response

The man looks over to the pile of dust.  His eyes then move back to the large man.

                    MAN

No sir, I may be a felon, but

              lying was never my crime

The large man frowns then looks over to the henchman that has positioned himself near the large metal box connected to the man's chain.

The large man then nods to the henchmen.

As the henchman leans down a large sign on the metal box states in several languages "DO NOT PULL ON CHAIN"

The henchman grabs the chain and yanks it out with great force.

                    MAN

               No!

The large box rattles and makes a multitude of noises.  The display numbers begin to change rapidly and a green light blinks followed by a sustained red light.  The gears turn as the chain connected to the man reels in.  Twenty links go by pulling the chains slack to the man tightening just enough to pull the man back causing him to fall back in his chair.

                    MAN

Oh no, please sir, I was lying

The large man then nods again to his henchman who promptly releases his grip on the chain.

The metal box roars for a moment then slowly the noises come to a halt.

                    MAN

She told me to tell you that

               she went North, when she

               truthfully went South down

               the road toward the lake

The large man shuffles his feet in excitement.

                    LARGE MAN

See what a little persuasion can

do to a son of a melon mother's

               since of dignity

EXT. LAKESIDE-DAWN

The stars are out again with only a few clouds above.  The young woman drops her bags at the shore and takes off her hat letting her long hair fall.  She looks around breifly then removes a few items of clothing.  With her bare foot she touches the water testing its temperature.  She smiles then slowly walks into the lake.  The moon has returned this morning, its reflection in the water is quickly splashed into fragments.

She swims further out into the lake.  She

submerges then returns to the surface.  She takes a deep breath then submerges again.

Her face breaks the surface again with a smile as she treads water.

EXT. TALL GRASS-DAWN

The sounds of splashing water are heard.

The sun is rises just above the lake oposite from the tall grass.  The henchmen are creeping up to the shoreline, sunlight is glaring in their eyes.

The large man pushes the tall grass aside and makes his way to the shore.

                     LARGE MAN

                 Petrol!  You wench

The young woman startles in the water.

The rest of the henchmen gather beside the large man.

The young woman shows the signs of being frightened.

The large man smiles and walks a few feet closer.

The henchmen continue past the large man towards the shore.

                     LARGE MAN

                 Stop!

The henchmen stop in their tracks.  The large man looks down to the ground and then surveys the surrounding area.  He ends his search to a few bits of rope barely sticking out of the sand.

The young woman widens her eyes and backs up a little in the water.

                     LARGE MAN

You see there, she has set a

                 trap for us

The large man laughs.

                     LARGE MAN

                 Bring her to me

The henchmen spread out avoiding the area of the large snare trap.

The young woman reaches into the water pulling out a black metal tube attached to a rotting piece of wood.

                     HENCHMAN #1

                 Look, aww...she's got a stick

The large man looks at the young woman with a puzzled look on his face.  His gaze follows her hand as she pulls a metal bolt out of one of her one of her remaining garments.  The large man tilts his head and squints his eyes as she slides the bolt into the metal tube.

                     LARGE MAN

                  That's not a stick

She raises the device and points it toward the men.

                     LARGE MAN

I haven't seen one of those

                  since I was a kid

She smiles as she looks through the metal sights atop the metal tube.

A loud BANG is heard.  She locks the bolt back then foward again followed by another loud BANG.

EXT. ROADSIDE-DAY

The sun is directly above the man as he sits with a frown on his face staring at his guitar several feet in front of him.  His chain is fully extended and off the ground.

A lizard climbs down the branch of a nearby tree snatching a fly.

The man leans back in his chair closing his eyes then leans forward.  He slowly opens his eyes and looks forward down the road.

An image of a figure is seen distorted by the heat of the day walking toward him.

The man blinks and scratches his eyelids.

He looks at the young woman with amazement.  She walks toward him with a smile on her face.

She walks right up to him and pulls a bottle of red liquid out of her jacket and hands it to him.

                       YOUNG WOMAN

                Thank you for your corporate

                patronage

The man gladly accepts the bottle studying it intently.  He then looks back at her.

                       MAN
                But, I cannot except this!

I led them right to you

He bows his head in shame reaching out to return the bottle to her.

She walks over to the computer screen and flips it around to face her.  She grabs the keyboard and types.

A username and password are entered into a red screen.

The man lifts his head up then returns his hand still holding the bottle.

The computer screen displays the message "Thank You For Your Corporate Patronage!"

The small box attached to the screen lights up and she reaches into her pocket.  She pulls a severed finger out and places it on the plastic reader.  She looks at the man and smiles.

                        YOUNG WOMAN

I thought that vile piece of

blue trash would have been too

                 distracted with his breaking

of you to notice the trap that

I had laid out for him

The man has a puzzled look on his face

                        YOUNG WOMAN

But, he did still notice it

so I had to go with the

                 back up plan

The man opens his mouth to speak but is cut off by the words "2000 CREDITS EARNED" coming from the computer screen.

She looks at him then smiles again.

                        YOUNG WOMAN

                 Don't worry

She holds a combination of keys down at the same time and the screen shuts off.

A loud BEEP can be heard.  The screen flashes back on.

The man looks over to the screen and notices that his freedom ticker displays "Only 1 More Transaction To Go".

The young woman drops the bolt back on the table.

The man looks back at her and then down to her finger pointing at the bolt.

                        YOUNG WOMAN

                 How much for that brother?
