Why?

Why?

A Story by Nightstar

A fresh coat of white covered the outside window, as the c**k struck yet another hour. Beep...Beep, I looked over at the bed taking my friends hand to wispier softly to them. "I know you can hear me, and you need to wake up." Beep...Beep. I held tightly to my friends hand hoping that I'd get a squeeze back, but nothing happened. Beep...Beep. Looking out the window I could hear a faint sound of singing but it brought me no joy. Laying my head down on the bed, looking closely at her wrist to see the fresh stitches that they had to put in to stop the bleeding. Beep.......Beep. "No." I whispered softly. "You can't...you're meant to wake up. Please?" Beep..... Taking my friends hand, I could almost feel the warmth leave her body. Letting her hand go I walked out the door. My mom saw me leave the room, at first I didn't hear her as she called out my name but when I did hear it I just started running, faster and faster I just wanted to leave and get to the doors. Running out the door I could feel the chill of the air hit my face. My mom came out I couldn't turn to look at her, not wanting to I felt tears roll down my freshly redden cheeks. Looking down at my watch it was midnight the starting of a new day.
I turned my head to slightly see my mom out the corner of my eye."Mom?" My mom looked up to look up at me. "Yes?" I turned around to look her dead in the eye. "Merry Christmas."
