Roots

Roots

A Poem by K
"

One plant turned into two

"
Once upon a time
You were a part of me.
We were the same entity,
Living as one.
But we were cut off from one another,
And I feared that we'd both wither and die.
I underestimated you,
For you found the will to survive.
You grew your roots,
And you flourished.
Flourished like never before.
And I found myself failing
Succumbing to a slow death
Of mind and body.
I had thought us equals
But our separation proved I only held you back.
I needed you more than you needed me,
For the truth was
That you never needed me at all.
