Please See Me: Mental Health Awareness Writing Contest 01-13-2020

We have made electronics smarter
So we as a human race don't have to labor as much
Yet we have significantly less time than our forefathers.
Maybe that's the excuse for not seeing.
For not noticing when something is off.
People won't look past the surface,
So the right smile, nod, and inflection will be enough.
They'll believe the lie that you're fine.
And we're scared of putting ourselves out there.
Admitting we're human and hurting.
We just want you to notice and help.
So, please, see me.
Not the one we show the world to keep from worrying anyone.
But the scared, helpless trapped soul on the inside.
I thought I was normal, as best the word could be described.
When I lost my family, the realization hit me.
There was no normal without medication.
There was no getting back what I had lost.
See me. See us. Before it's too late.
