Death Dance 10-1-12

Death Dance 10-1-12

A Poem by K

He embraced her like that of a lover.
He held her tight and pulled her close.
He cradled her to him.
She struggled for release.
His face, inches from hers,
Was nothing more than a grinning skull.
She shoved him away, crying.
Silently, he came up behind her.
I can save you, he breathed,
Brushing cold fingers against the red ribbons
Winding down her arm and dripping to the floor.
Just dance with me, he continued,
And I can end all your pain.
She refused to accept the offer,
But as he wound his arms around her,
She lost her resolve, placing her hand in his.
He spun her into a dance,
Until she begged to stop.
He grinned wider, his black eyes mocking.
You know who I am, he told her.
You should then know, this is a death dance.
And you shall not return from it.
A willing soul, you gave yourself over to me.
Now I'll take from you the only life you ever know.
