Dragon WarA Poem by KMy adventure into fantasy type poetryBlood had been spilled. They could smell it. Murder had been committed here. Broken fragments of a shell Lay scattered at their feet, Their offspring dead before it had ever lived. They could smell them, Those that had done it. Humans. They vowed to avenge, To hunt those who had hurt their unborn offspring. But they turn on each other, In their rage, they fought. The real culprit forgotten in light of their grief. With savage ferocity, They advanced on one another. With murderous intent, The war was fought. Until, bleeding, they lay, Dying for naught. While the reason their rage had been awoken Rejoiced in the nearby town, Feeling himself the hero, Congratulating himself for bravery, For killing the innocent young. His kind gave him the glory he never deserved. Drowning the regret in drinks manifold, He boasted to return to the cave Where he vowed to kill and rid the land of the remaining monsters. With the days fading last rays of light, He returned to the cave, His drink having washed his fear away, As well as his logic. The creatures he hunted, Lay where they fell, their strength ebbing, Their vision wavering, their life fading. But still they lived, if only slightly. And the smell they caught on the wind, Caused them to see their wrong. They threw themselves upon one another, And now they would ne’re live to see another day. But the sinner walked free, His hands forever stained with blood. They swore to, with their dying breath, Kill him that came to destroy. One life lost to fear, Two for naught but wrath, And one for hatred.
