Summer Queen and Winter Prince

Summer Queen and Winter Prince

A Poem by Alice Walker

Summer's rain and Winter's chill
Nothing will change how I feel for you.
From a heavenly Hell and a hellish Heaven,
I will follow your eternal lead.
Never shall I let my darkened angels steal you
Nor shall I ever let my virtuous demons look upon your figure.
I am a jealous lover,
But that is expected when ma chérie is a goddess with a golden heart.
I am the frozen Winter born 'Prince' that worships the beauty of the Summer born Queen,
Wishing to have the warmth of the sun instead of the icy chill of a blizzard.
I bow my head and offer my Summer Queen the frozen lump I call my heart,
Hoping the Sun's daughter would accept me and my ice heart.
The Summer Queen accepted my icy heart and, in return,
Gave me her own fiery heart.
Oh summer rain and winter chill,
Nevermore shall the 'Prince' be apart from her golden Queen.
