Down, Down, Down

Down, Down, Down

A Poem by Alice Walker

Down, down, down,
I fall slowly down the endless pit.
Memories from my childhood race past me,
Disappearing as I reached out for them.

Down, down, down,
That's all that ever happens now.
My memories have vanished like dust in the wind
And the wind echoes loudly in my ears now.

Down, down, down,
I give up on ever reaching the bottom now.
The wind has long stopped echoing its wails,
Allowing silence to take dominance over my descent down.

Down, down, down,
The descent's end seems impossibly close now.
I relax into the welcomed embrace of the Guardian of Souls,
The warm embrace of the lovely figure called Death.

Down, down-
The long awaited end finally appears for me.
I smile at the blackened sky as I stared up with empty eyes.
I was finally free from waiting, I had finally reached the end.

I am an aspiring 16 year old author and poet. My stories tend to be on the dark side, but also show the lighter side of reality. I love music and drawing on top of writing whatever I feel like. That a.. more..
